CAT 581-9080 is a Caterpillar external retaining ring for axle bearings. Its primary function is to secure bearings/gears within assemblies such as drive axles, gearboxes, and wheel hubs, preventing axial movement. It is suitable for construction machinery such as loaders and excavators. The following is structured and precise information.
Core Parameters (Professional Version)
Project Details
Basic Attributes Model 581-9080, External Circlip (Shaft Elastic Retaining Ring), Quantity per Unit 1–2 Pieces (depending on shaft positioning requirements), used for axial positioning of bearings/gears on shafts, suitable for applications with tight radial space and low to medium axial loads.
Key Dimensions Suitable for shaft diameters of approximately 85 mm (commonly corresponding to CAT 569-4230 bearings, etc.), free diameter 82–84 mm, thickness 2.0–2.5 mm, width 3.0–3.5 mm, opening clearance 3–5 mm, suitable groove diameter 85 mm, groove width 3.2–3.6 mm
Material and Processing 65Mn/SAE 1070 spring steel, quenched + tempered, hardness HRC42–52, surface galvanized/passivated, corrosion resistant, suitable temperature -40℃ to +120℃
Performance Parameters Rated Axial Load ≥5 kN, elastic deformation ≤0.2 mm, no permanent deformation after assembly, disassembly cycles ≤5 times (to avoid fatigue fracture)
Compatible models: Cat 950/962 loaders, 320/330 excavators, some drive axles (e.g., 8J-0456), gearbox output shafts; compatible bearings: 569-4230, 449-5085, etc.
Installation and maintenance points:
Clean the shaft groove before installation, ensuring no burrs or rust. Groove width tolerance +0.05/-0 mm, groove depth tolerance ±0.02 mm, surface roughness Ra≤1.6 μm.
Use dedicated snap ring pliers (e.g., CAT 1U-0022) to avoid excessive stretching leading to deformation. After installation, check the fit between the retaining ring and the bearing end face; there should be no gap.
Axial movement after assembly ≤0.05 mm. It is recommended to check the retaining ring for looseness, deformation, and cracks every 2000 hours; replace if abnormal.
When disassembling, use snap ring pliers to pry open the opening. Do not strike, to prevent the retaining ring from breaking or the shaft groove from being damaged.
