CAT 451-6455 is a Caterpillar original 17.5mm thick double-lip skeleton oil seal (TC type), compatible with Cat 3516B/C marine engine crankshaft front oil seal, C18 industrial engine camshaft oil seal, 793D mining truck transmission input shaft oil seal, and D11T bulldozer drive axle half-shaft oil seal. It is used for oil sealing of high-speed rotating shafts to prevent leakage and contaminant intrusion. The following is a professional technical and application guide:

Core Technical Parameters (Professional Version)

Item Details
Basic Attributes
Model 451-6455, Type Double-lip skeleton oil seal (TC type, inner skeleton + double rubber lips + spring tension ring), Compatible with Cat 3516B/C marine engine crankshaft front oil seal, C18 industrial engine camshaft oil seal, 793D mining truck transmission input shaft, D11T bulldozer drive axle half-shaft, 992K The loader steering knuckle vertical shaft is made of an inner skeleton (SPCC cold-rolled steel plate, 1.2 mm thick, electrophoretic black finish), main/secondary lips (HNBR hydrogenated nitrile rubber, hardness 70 Shore A, oil-resistant/heat-resistant/aging-resistant), and a tension spring (stainless steel 304, wire diameter 0.8 mm, tension 12-15 N). Its inner diameter is 80 mm (tolerance d11, -0.12/-0.20 mm), outer diameter is 105 mm (tolerance h11, 0/-0.16 mm), and total thickness is 17.5 mm (tolerance ±0.2 mm). It weighs approximately 0.28 kg, has a rated working pressure ≤0.3 MPa (static seal), a limiting linear velocity ≤12 m/s (rotary shaft seal), and a working temperature range of -30℃ to +150℃. The sealing medium is engine oil/transmission oil (API CF-4/GL-5). Grade 1), suitable for rotating shafts with a diameter runout ≤0.15 mm, sealing lip interference fit 0.3-0.5 mm

Key Dimensions: Main lip inner diameter matches shaft diameter 80 mm (journal surface hardness HRC 58-62, roughness Ra≤0.4 μm, surface free of axial scratches), secondary lip inner diameter 78 mm (dustproof auxiliary seal), outer diameter matches bore diameter 105 mm (housing bore roughness Ra≤1.6 μm, roundness ≤0.05 mm), skeleton outer diameter 103 mm, rubber cover thickness 1 mm, lip contact width 3 mm, spring groove diameter 79 mm, installation chamfer 15°×1 mm (housing bore inlet)

Material and Process: HNBR rubber lip is integrally molded and vulcanized with the skeleton. The spring is embedded in the lip groove to provide continuous radial tension. The main lip has built-in oil return grooves (spiral grooves for oil return), and the secondary lip is a dustproof lip (serrated texture to block dust/moisture). Oil resistance meets ASTM standards. D471, aging resistance conforms to ISO 1817, ozone resistance conforms to ISO 1431, lip wear life ≥ 5000 hours (at rated linear speed), pressure impact resistance ≤ 0.5 MPa (instantaneous).
Compatible models: Cat 3516B/C marine engine crankshaft front oil seal (speed ≤ 2200 rpm), C18 industrial engine camshaft oil seal (speed ≤ 2800 rpm), 793D mining truck gearbox input shaft (speed ≤ 2500 rpm), D11T bulldozer drive axle half shaft (speed ≤ 1800 rpm), 992K loader steering knuckle vertical shaft (speed ≤ 800 rpm). Core application: oil sealing for medium- and high-speed rotating shafts. Suitable operating conditions: oil temperature ≤ 120℃, shaft diameter runout ≤ 0.15 mm, rotating parts without severe impact.
Assembly fit: interference fit with shaft (main lip interference 0.3-0.5 mm). (mm, cold-pressed in), interference fit with the housing bore (interference 0.1-0.2 mm, pressing force ≤500 N), axial positioning after installation against the housing bore step, radial runout ≤0.08 mm, uniform lip-shaft contact pressure (no uneven wear), 10°×1 mm chamfer on the fitting shaft end (to prevent lip scratches)

Installation and Maintenance Points: Before installation, clean the oil seal, journal, and housing bore. Check that the oil seal is free from deformation and the lip is undamaged (no notches/cracks/foreign objects), the journal surface is free from rust/scratches (depth > 0.1 mm requires repair), the housing bore is free from burrs, and the measured shaft diameter/bore diameter meets tolerances (journal roundness ≤0.02 mm).

During assembly, use a special tool (guide sleeve) to smoothly press the sleeve into the housing bore, ensuring the lip faces the oil side (main lip inside, secondary lip outside) to prevent the spring from falling off or the lip from flipping. After pressing, check that the lip and journal fit evenly and without jamming. Do not run at high speed immediately after installation (idle for 30 minutes for break-in).

Maintenance Recommendations: Check the sealing condition every 1000 hours. If oil leakage occurs (>5 drops in 24 hours) or lip wear (thickness <2 mm), immediately replace the oil seal and repair the journal (polish the surface to Ra≤0.4 μm). Simultaneously replace the corresponding O-rings/gaskets to prevent secondary leakage.
