The CAT 583-3288 GD is a Caterpillar double-row angular contact ball bearing (paired back-to-back mounting) for heavy-duty hydraulic cylinders. It is compatible with the lugs of the main lifting cylinder of the Cat 583K pipelaying machine, the piston rod end of the blade lifting cylinder of the D11 bulldozer, and the bottom hinge point of the boom cylinder of the 988K loader. Measure the dimensions of the journal and outer ring bore to ensure the fit meets requirements. The journal fillet radius should be ≤1.5 mm to avoid stress concentration (Cat) between the steel balls and raceways.
Use the cold-press installation method. Use a special press to first press the outer ring into the bearing housing, then fit the inner ring onto the journal. Do not directly strike the inner or outer ring to prevent deformation of the steel balls and chipping of the outer ring. After installation, adjust the axial preload to 25-35 N・m to ensure no axial movement (Cat).
Lubrication and maintenance: The grease filling amount should be 30-40% of the bearing’s internal space (Cat Moly Grease is recommended); check the bearing wear and clearance every 1000 hours. If the steel balls show indentations, the outer ring wear exceeds 0.12 mm, or the radial clearance exceeds 0.18 mm, replace the bearing immediately.
