CAT 103-8329 is a Caterpillar shaft retainer ring (circlip) used in drive systems. It is compatible with the final drive, gearbox, or hydraulic motor of excavators and loaders. Its core function is to lock the axial position of the bearing inner ring, gear, or bushing to prevent component movement. It is suitable for low-to-medium speed and medium load conditions, and has excellent vibration and shock resistance. It is a key small hardware component for drive system positioning. The following is structured technical and application information:

Core Technical Parameters

Item Details
Basic Attributes
Model 103-8329, Type: Shaft-mounted elastic retaining ring (external snap-fit), Material: 65Mn spring steel (quenched + tempered, hardness HRC 44-50), Surface: galvanized passivation (corrosion resistance ≥96 hours salt spray test), Single weight: approximately 0.04 kg, Operating temperature: -40℃ to +150℃, Installation method: elastic snap-fit, Design life: ≥8000 hours (normal operating conditions)

Key Dimensions
Inner diameter: 44.45 mm (1.75 inches, tolerance 0/+0.012 mm), Outer diameter: 50.8 mm (2 inches, tolerance 0/-0.018 mm), Thickness: 1.5 mm (tolerance 0/-0.05 mm), Opening width: 6 mm, Snap-fit spring deformation ≤2.5 mm (during installation), Fitting groove width: 1.6 mm (tolerance + 0.02/-0.01 mm), groove diameter 47.625 mm (1.875 inches)

Compatible Models and Accessories: Compatible with Cat 320D and 330D excavators (final drive planetary gear shaft bearing positioning), 950M loader (transmission second shaft gear axial fixation), 345D hydraulic motor drive shaft bearing locking, and compatible with 366-9273 straight sleeve bearings, 5V-5498 retainers, and 241-3818 retaining rings.

Performance Parameters: Axial locking force ≥6 kN, radial clamping force ≥4 kN, fatigue life ≥6000 cycles (elastic deformation cycles), impact load resistance ≥10 kN, elastic recovery rate ≥95% (after installation).

Structural and Performance Advantages: Made of 65Mn spring steel, quenched and tempered, balancing elasticity and rigidity. The external clamp design allows for quick installation and disassembly, suitable for maintenance scenarios requiring frequent disassembly and assembly, and can be completed without complex tools.

The galvanized passivation surface treatment enhances corrosion resistance, making it suitable for harsh outdoor working conditions in engineering machinery. It reduces the risk of snap ring failure due to rust and extends service life.

The flexible snap-fit design absorbs vibrations in the transmission system, reduces impact between components, protects core components such as bearings and gears, prevents abnormal wear caused by axial movement, and improves the overall reliability of the transmission system.

Installation and Maintenance Points: Before installation, clean the mounting groove, shaft shoulder, and bearing end face on the shaft, checking for burrs and rust. Measure the groove diameter (47.625 mm) and groove width (1.6 mm), ensuring an interference fit of 0.01-0.02 mm between the snap ring and the groove.

Use special external snap ring pliers to open the snap ring opening and insert it into the mounting groove, ensuring the snap ring is fully embedded without protrusions or looseness. After installation, rotate the shaft system to check for any jamming or abnormal noise.

Maintenance: Check the elasticity and surface condition of the retaining ring every 1500 hours. If plastic deformation, cracks or corrosion are found, replace it immediately. When installing a new retaining ring, do not reuse the old retaining ring to avoid insufficient elasticity leading to positioning failure.
