The CAT 9R-2498 is a Caterpillar elastic retainer for positioning pins and bushings. It is compatible with the boom, stick, bucket pins, and track tensioning mechanisms of excavators such as the 320D2 and 336D2. Its core function is to lock the axial position of the pins/bushings, preventing them from shifting during operation and ensuring the stability and safety of the connection. The following is structured technical and application information:
Core Technical Parameters
Item Details
Basic Attributes
Model 9R-2498, Type: Elastic retaining ring type retainer (with positioning boss), Material: 65Mn spring steel, Surface treated with black oxidation, Hardness: HRC42-48, Single weight: Approximately 0.8 kg, Applicable temperature: -40℃ to +120℃, Corrosion resistance rating: IP54, Elastic deformation ≤0.5 mm, Shear strength ≥800 MPa
Key Dimensions
Inner diameter: 65.0 mm (adapter pin outer diameter tolerance +0.01/-0.01 mm), Outer diameter: 90.0 mm (tolerance ±0.15 mm), Thickness: 8.0 mm (tolerance ±0.08 mm), Positioning boss height: 5.0 mm (tolerance ±0.10 mm), Opening width: 12.0 mm (tolerance ±0.10 mm), Opening elastic recovery ≥95%, Mounting groove diameter: 70.0 mm (tolerance ±0.10 mm). ±0.05 mm) Compatible Models and Applications: Compatible with Cat 320D2, 323D2, 336D2, 395 and other tracked excavators. Used for boom-stick pins, stick-bucket pins, and track tension cylinder support pins. Supporting parts include 252-5094 flange sleeve bushings, 296-1371 trunnions, and 7T-4214 bolts. These are used to lock the axial position of the pins, prevent bushing movement, withstand vibration and impact loads, and compensate for installation errors.
Performance Parameters: Rated axial locking force ≥120 kN, fatigue life ≥10000 cycles, impact resistance ≥5000 cycles (1.2 times rated load), assembly clearance 0.02-0.05 mm, disassembly cycles ≤5 times (ensuring elasticity).
Structural and Performance Advantages: Elastic retaining ring structure: Made of 65Mn… Spring steel, possessing high elasticity and toughness, ensures reliable axial locking after installation by elastic restoring force against the pin mounting groove, adapting to vibration and impact conditions and preventing loosening.
Positioning Boss Design: An integrally molded positioning boss is embedded in the bushing or support positioning groove, preventing circumferential rotation of the retainer, improving locking stability, and avoiding pin wear or fixation failure due to rotation.
Oxidation Blackening for Corrosion Protection: Surface oxidation blackening treatment forms a dense oxide film, enhancing rust resistance, adapting to humid and dusty construction environments, extending service life, and reducing maintenance frequency.
High-Precision Dimensional Control: Strict inner and outer diameter and thickness tolerances ensure precise fit with the pin and bushing, preventing loosening or jamming after installation, guaranteeing the stability and safety of the connection.
Installation and Maintenance Points: Before installation, clean the retainer, pin mounting groove, and bushing, checking for burrs, cracks, and deformation; use special snap ring pliers to pry open the retainer, insert it into the pin mounting groove, ensuring the positioning boss aligns with the bushing positioning groove and the retainer fits snugly against the bottom of the groove; do not hammer or strike. After installation, check the elastic recovery of the retainer to ensure there is no excessive deformation of the opening and axial movement ≤0.05 mm. Run it for 30 minutes to confirm there are no abnormal noises or loosening.
Maintenance: Check the elasticity and wear of the retainer every 1000 hours. Replace it immediately if elasticity decreases, cracks appear, or deformation >0.5 mm. Use original parts whenever possible, ensuring material and size matching to prevent damage to the pin and bushing due to retainer failure.
