The CAT 308-9808 YM is a steel-backed anti-friction alloy sleeve bearing (bushing) designed by Caterpillar for heavy-duty machinery chassis/working devices. It is mainly used in high-frequency swinging parts such as boom-stick and connecting rod-pivot of excavators and loaders, providing precise positioning and wear-resistant protection. It is suitable for heavy-duty and impact conditions and is a key wear part of the chassis. The following is structured technical and application information:
Core Technical Parameters
Item Details
Basic Attributes
Model 308-9808 YM, Type: Straight-tube steel-backed bronze alloy sleeve bearing, Material: Steel back + high-strength brass (CuZn25Al5), tin-plated surface, Single weight approximately 0.62 kg, Applicable temperature: -30℃ to +120℃, Suitable grease: Cat Moly Paste, Fit: Interference fit (sleeve H7 / shaft j6)

Compatible Models and Applications
Compatible with: Cat For 320D/323D excavators and 950H/966H loaders, this product is used for boom pins, stick pivots, and connecting rod bushings. Matching parts include pivot pins, lock nuts, and dust seals. Rated load capacity ≥280 MPa, fatigue life ≥8500 hours.
Performance Parameters: Steel backing tensile strength ≥900 MPa, alloy layer hardness HB110-140, coefficient of friction ≤0.10 (lubricated state), impact toughness ≥55 J/cm², corrosion resistance meets ISO 9227 neutral salt spray test ≥48 hours with no red rust, alloy layer bonding strength ≥150 MPa.
Structural and Performance Advantages: Composite wear-resistant structure: The steel backing provides high-strength support, while the high-strength brass alloy layer reduces friction and wear, suitable for heavy-duty impact conditions, effectively reducing wear on pins and bearings, and extending the life of mating parts.
Precise Positioning: The inner bore has an H7 tolerance and is precision-machined, ensuring an interference fit with the pivot pin, guaranteeing connection accuracy, reducing radial runout, lowering clearance, and improving operational stability.
High Adaptability: Chamfered ends facilitate installation, uniform wall thickness ensures balanced stress distribution, adapting to various heavy-duty conditions. It perfectly matches original factory pivot pins, dust rings, and other accessories, reducing maintenance costs.
Installation and Maintenance Points: Before installation, clean the inner and outer surfaces of the bearing and the mounting hole, checking for burrs and cracks; use press-fit (pressure ≤12 kN, applied to the end face), and do not strike the inner bore; after installation, the rear face runout should be ≤0.02 mm, rotation should be smooth, and the fit clearance should meet design requirements.
Trial run for 30 minutes, bearing temperature ≤75℃, no abnormal noise or vibration; check wear and lubrication status every 500 hours, replenish grease every 1000 hours, and replace the bearing when the inner bore wear exceeds 0.25 mm.
When replacing, the original pivot pin must be matched to ensure the interference fit and tolerance, and avoid non-standard parts that may cause poor fit and premature failure.
