CAT 584-8042 is a steel-backed composite layer straight sleeve bearing (bushing) designed by Caterpillar for the transmission/chassis systems of engineering machinery. It is mostly used in heavy-duty, low-speed swinging/rotating parts such as gearbox planetary carriers, drive axle differentials, or boom-pivots, providing wear-resistant support and shock absorption, and is suitable for harsh working conditions. It is a key wear part of the transmission and chassis. The following is structured technical and application information:
Core Technical Parameters

Compatible Models and Applications
Compatible with: Cat This product is used in 326D2 and 330D2 excavators and 972M loaders for boom pivots, gearbox planetary carrier cross shafts, and drive axle differential supports. Supporting parts include pivot pins, thrust washers, and dust rings. Rated load capacity ≥300 MPa, fatigue life ≥9000 hours.
Performance Parameters: Steel backing tensile strength ≥950 MPa, alloy layer hardness HB85-110, coefficient of friction ≤0.09 (lubricated state), impact toughness ≥60 J/cm², corrosion resistance meets ISO 9227 neutral salt spray test ≥72 hours with no red rust, alloy layer bonding strength ≥160 MPa.
Structural and Performance Advantages:
Composite wear-resistant structure: The steel backing provides high strength and rigidity, while the copper-lead alloy layer possesses excellent friction reduction and embedding properties, suitable for heavy-duty impact conditions, effectively absorbing vibration, reducing wear on pins and bearings, and extending the life of mating parts.
Precise Positioning: The inner bore is precision-machined with an H7 tolerance fit, ensuring connection accuracy, reducing radial runout, and improving equipment operational stability.
Easy Installation: Chamfered ends facilitate press-fitting; uniform wall thickness ensures balanced stress distribution; perfectly matches original pivot pins, dust rings, and other accessories, reducing maintenance difficulty and cost.
Installation and Maintenance Points: Before installation, clean the inner and outer surfaces of the bearing and the mounting hole, checking for burrs and cracks; use press-fitting (pressure ≤15 kN, applied to the end face); do not strike the inner bore; after installation, the rear face runout should be ≤0.025 mm, rotation/oscillation should be smooth without jamming, and the fit clearance should meet design requirements.
Trial run for 30 minutes; bearing temperature ≤75℃, no abnormal noise or vibration; check wear and lubrication status every 500 hours, replenish grease every 1000 hours; replace the bearing when the inner bore wear exceeds 0.30 mm.
When replacing, the original pivot pin must be matched to ensure the interference fit and tolerance, and avoid non-standard parts that may cause poor fit and premature failure.
