CAT 538-5935 SEM is a single-row tapered roller bearing designed by Caterpillar specifically for engineering machinery transmission systems. It is suitable for heavy-duty components such as planetary gear sets and differentials in loaders, excavators, and other equipment. It can withstand radial and unidirectional axial loads. Below is its structural technology and application information for Cat.
Core Technical Parameters
Item Details
Basic Attributes Model 538-5935 SEM, Type: Single-row tapered roller bearing, Material: High-carbon chromium bearing steel (52100), Weight: Approximately 1.2 kg, Suitable Temperature: -30℃ to +150℃, Suitable Operating Conditions: Medium-low speed rotation, heavy-load radial force, can withstand unidirectional axial load
Key Dimensions Inner diameter: 90 mm, Outer diameter: 150 mm, Width: 35 mm, Chamfer radius: R2.5 mm, Cone angle: 15°, Inner bore surface roughness: Ra≤0.8 μm, Outer diameter tolerance: h6, Inner diameter tolerance: H7, Cylindricity: ≤0.01 mm, Straightness: ≤0.008 mm, Parallelism of both end faces: ≤0.015 mm
Suitable Machines and Parts Suitable for: Cat 972M loader planetary gear set, 336GC excavator boom reduction gearbox differential, 160M Grader drive axle differential, 2 pieces per machine, suitable for radial load ≤200 kN, axial load ≤60 kN, speed ≤1600 rpm.
Performance Parameters: Dynamic rated load Cr≥120 kN, static rated load Cor≥150 kN, coefficient of friction ≤0.002 (grease lubrication), hardness HRC 60-64, recommended Cat 2C-9600 grease, lubrication cycle every 1500 hours, seal type is contact rubber seal.
Structural and Performance Advantages:
Separable structure: The inner ring (cone) and outer ring (cup) are separable, facilitating installation, disassembly, and maintenance. Suitable for complex transmission system layouts. After installation, preload can be precisely controlled by adjusting shims, improving operational stability.
Material and Process: High-carbon chromium bearing steel, quenched and tempered, possesses high hardness, high wear resistance, and good toughness, suitable for harsh working conditions in engineering machinery. The contact seal effectively prevents dust and moisture intrusion, extending bearing life.
Load Adaptability: The tapered roller bearing structure can efficiently withstand combined radial and unidirectional axial loads, adapting to complex stress conditions in planetary gears, differentials, and other components. It operates smoothly with low noise and vibration, effectively reducing energy loss in the transmission system.
Standardized Design: Dimensions conform to industry standards, using an interference fit for installation, eliminating the need for complex adjustments. After installation, it offers good stability, is less prone to loosening, and reduces maintenance difficulty and time costs.
Installation and Maintenance Points: Before installation, clean the mounting holes and shaft diameter, removing burrs and oil stains. Inspect the inner and outer surfaces of the bearing for scratches and deformation. During installation, use a dedicated pressing tool to apply even pressure to press the bearing into the mounting hole. The pressure should be ≤70 kN to avoid localized stress that could cause deformation. After pressing, adjust the shims to control the preload, ensuring the bearing clearance is between 0.03-0.06 mm.
Lubrication Specifications: After installation, fill the bearing with sufficient grease, filling it to 1/3-1/2 of its volume. Replenish the grease every 1500 hours, adding half the initial amount. Do not mix different types of grease, as this can deteriorate the grease and affect lubrication.
Maintenance Cycle: Inspect the bearing for wear every 2000 hours. If the inner bore wear exceeds 0.15 mm, or if surface peeling, cracks, or roller breakage are observed, replace the bearing immediately. Avoid subjecting the bearing to severe impact loads to prevent damage to the rolling elements and raceways.
