CAT 148-9316 is a Caterpillar original equipment manufacturer (OEM) external retaining ring assembly for shafts. It is commonly used in hydraulic cylinders, bearing end caps, connecting rods, and other components of excavators, loaders, and other equipment. Its core function is axial positioning and fixation, preventing displacement of shaft parts (such as bearings, bushings, and gears) during movement. It is compatible with hydraulic cylinder piston rods, bearing housings, or transmission components in models such as the 320D/336D and 950H.

Compatible Models: Compatible with 320D/323D/336D This product is used in excavators, 950H/962H loaders, 430F2 loaders, etc., for hydraulic cylinder piston rod retaining rings, bearing end cover retaining rings, connecting rod shaft end retaining rings, gear shaft retaining rings, bushing positioning retaining rings, etc.
Performance Characteristics: Spring steel provides good elasticity, easy installation and removal, galvanized layer for corrosion protection, suitable for speeds ≤5000rpm, can withstand axial loads ≥8kN, absorbs vibration, prevents parts from loosening, ensures axial positioning accuracy of components, and extends equipment life.
Core Functions and Structure:
Axial Positioning and Fixing: Embedded in an annular groove on the shaft, it uses elastic tension to hold the parts in place, providing reliable axial positioning for the parts on the shaft, preventing axial movement of parts during operation, suitable for frequent start-stop and load fluctuation conditions.
Quick Installation, Removal, and Maintenance: The flexible opening design allows for quick installation and removal with retaining ring pliers, without the need for complex tools, facilitating equipment maintenance and parts replacement, and improving maintenance efficiency.
Anti-loosening and vibration reduction: The spring steel material absorbs vibration and buffers impact, preventing the retaining ring from loosening under vibration conditions, ensuring positioning stability, and is suitable for the high-intensity operating environment of construction machinery.
Lightweight and low-cost: Compact structure, light weight (approximately 0.03kg), low cost, suitable for mass production applications, and can reduce the overall maintenance cost of equipment.
Installation and maintenance points:
Installation specifications:
Clean the shaft groove and retaining ring surface to remove oil, rust, and impurities; check the retaining ring for cracks, deformation, and peeling of the galvanized layer, and for burrs on the opening.
Use special shaft retaining ring pliers to pry open the retaining ring and insert it into the shaft groove, ensuring that the retaining ring is fully embedded in the bottom of the groove, fits tightly against the groove wall, and is not skewed. After installation, the axial clearance should be ≤0.03mm.
After installation, check the axial movement of the parts to ensure there is no movement. Test the retaining ring tension to prevent failure due to excessively loose or tight installation. Maintenance Recommendations:
Inspect every 1000 working hours: Check for deformation, cracks, and corrosion of the retaining ring; check for wear on the groove wall; measure the thickness of the retaining ring; replace it immediately if wear exceeds 0.2mm to avoid positioning failure.
Avoid reusing the retaining ring after disassembly to prevent elastic fatigue leading to decreased tension. When replacing, prioritize original equipment manufacturer (OEM) retaining rings to ensure dimensional accuracy and performance.
