CAT 170-9820 is a genuine Caterpillar composite wear-resistant bushing, widely used in hinge pins, cylinder lugs, and connecting rod joints of loaders, bulldozers, and other equipment. It provides wear resistance, friction reduction, positioning, and cushioning. It is compatible with CAT 950G/966G loaders and D6R/D7R bulldozers, reducing frictional wear between the pins and the frame and extending the life of joint components.

Core Technical Parameters

Item Details
Part Model: CAT 170-9820 Composite Bushing, a vulnerable part in joint areas, no official direct replacement model; aftermarket reference: 1709820

Material: Steel backing + copper-lead alloy intermediate layer + PTFE self-lubricating surface layer. Steel backing hardness: HB 180-220. Intermediate layer contains 80% copper and 20% lead. Surface layer PTFE content ≥25%, with added bronze powder and graphite. Coefficient of friction ≤0.08. Temperature resistance: -40℃ to 200℃. Static load ≥150MPa, dynamic load ≥80MPa.

Key Dimensions: Inner diameter approx. 80mm, outer diameter approx. 95mm, length approx. 120mm, wall thickness 7.5mm (steel backing 2mm, intermediate layer 3mm, surface layer 0.5mm), chamfered ends 1×45°, suitable for pin diameter 80mm, installation interference. 0.05-0.10mm
Compatible with CAT 950G/966G loaders, D6R/D7R bulldozers, and 420F backhoe loaders. Used for boom cylinder lug bushings, front frame articulation pin bushings, connecting rod joint bushings, bucket pin bushings, steering knuckle kingpin bushings, etc.

Performance Characteristics: The steel backing provides rigidity and load-bearing capacity; the copper-lead alloy layer reduces friction and impact; the PTFE surface layer is self-lubricating and maintenance-free. Suitable for heavy-duty and oscillating conditions, it can work stably in oil-free or low-oil environments, is corrosion-resistant, and resistant to mud and sand wear, reducing frictional damage between pins and the frame.

Core Functions and Structure:
Friction Reduction and Wear Protection: The PTFE self-lubricating surface layer significantly reduces friction between pins and bushings, reducing relative motion wear and preventing component jamming or burning caused by dry friction. Suitable for frequently oscillating joints.

Load Transfer and Positioning: The steel backing and intermediate layer jointly bear radial loads, ensuring precise positioning of the pin within the bushing, preventing pin misalignment during operation, guaranteeing equipment operational accuracy, and simultaneously buffering vibration and impact to protect adjacent structural components.

Maintenance-Free and Contamination-Proof: Self-lubricating properties reduce lubrication requirements, making it suitable for long-term use under harsh conditions. The surface layer prevents dust, sand, and other foreign matter from entering the mating surfaces, avoiding abrasive wear and extending the service life of the pin and bushing.

Installation and Maintenance Points:
Installation Specifications: Clean the bushing mounting hole and pin surface, removing oil, metal shavings, and burrs. Check that the bushing is free from deformation and surface peeling, and that the mounting hole dimensions meet tolerance requirements (interference 0.05-0.10mm).

Pressure-fitting Installation: Use a dedicated pressure tool to smoothly press the bushing into the mounting hole. Do not strike the bushing end face to avoid surface damage. After pressure fitting, check that the bushing end face is flush with the mounting hole end face, without any misalignment.

After installation, check the pin’s rotational flexibility for smooth operation, ensuring there is no jamming or abnormal noise. Ensure the bushing and pin clearance is 0.02-0.05mm, suitable for both oscillating and rotating conditions.

Maintenance Recommendations: Every 1500 working hours, check the bushing for looseness, surface wear or peeling, and the pin for scratches or corrosion. If the bushing is loose or surface wear exceeds 0.3mm, replace the bushing and repair the pin immediately.

When replacing, prioritize original equipment manufacturer (OEM) 170-9820 bushings. Non-OEM parts may have improper material ratios or insufficient dimensional accuracy, easily leading to increased friction, premature wear, and equipment failure.
