CAT 328-5242 is a Caterpillar genuine straight-tube steel bushing, commonly used in the boom, stick, or connecting rod articulation points of excavators/loaders. Its core function is to support the pins, bear radial loads, reduce friction, and provide positioning. It is suitable for medium to heavy-duty working conditions, ensuring smooth operation and precise movement of the articulated parts.
Core Technical Parameters
Item Details
Part Model: CAT 328-5242 Straight Cylindrical Bushing, Original Part Number 3285242, General Duty Design, No Official Direct Replacement Model, Suitable for Medium to Light Load Articulated Parts
Material: Alloy structural steel base material, surface carburized and quenched, hardness HRC 58-62, inner hole copper/tin alloy plated, roughness Ra≤0.1μm, wear-resistant and corrosion-resistant, suitable for dusty and humid construction environments
Key Dimensions: Inner diameter 65mm, outer diameter 80mm, length 50mm, chamfered ends 1×45°, no inner oil groove (suitable for pressure lubrication or grease lubrication systems), interference fit with corresponding pins and mounting holes (interference 0.01-0.02mm)
Compatible Models: CAT 320D/323D/336D excavators, 966H/972H loaders, D6R Used in bulldozers and other applications for the articulation of the boom and stick, the connection between the linkage and the frame, and the support of the bucket pin.
Performance Parameters: Rated radial load 65kN, operating temperature -30℃ to 110℃, suitable for low-speed oscillating conditions (≤50r/min). When used with grease, it can effectively reduce friction and wear.
Core Functions and Structure:
Radial Support and Positioning: The straight cylindrical structure adapts to the radial force on the articulation pin, supporting the pin and limiting its radial movement, ensuring the motion accuracy of the articulation part, and preventing jamming or component damage due to excessive clearance.
Friction and Wear Control: The hardened surface and coating design reduce the coefficient of friction between the pin and the bushing. Regular lubrication forms an oil film, reducing the wear rate and extending the service life of the articulation part.
Load Buffering: The alloy material has a certain degree of toughness, which can absorb minor impact loads during articulation, protecting the pin and mounting holes and reducing the risk of fatigue damage.
Installation and Maintenance Points
Installation Specifications
Clean the surfaces of the bushing, pin, and mounting holes to remove oil, rust, and impurities. Check the bushing for cracks, deformation, or other defects, and ensure the mounting hole tolerances meet requirements (H7 grade).
Use cold or hot fitting methods (heating temperature 80-100℃) to press the bushing into the mounting holes, avoiding direct impact on the bushing end face. After installation, check that the bushing end face runout is ≤0.03mm to ensure coaxiality.
After installation, apply CAT-specific lithium-based grease to ensure the gap between the pin and bushing is filled with grease to prevent dry friction.
Maintenance Recommendations
Check every 500 working hours: for abnormal noises or looseness at the hinge joint, and for grease leakage. If the bushing inner diameter wear exceeds 0.2mm or the gap is greater than 0.3mm, replace it promptly.
Regularly clean impurities from the hinge joint to maintain unobstructed lubrication channels. Adjust the lubrication frequency according to operating conditions (this can be shortened to 250 hours/time in heavy-load or dusty environments).
