CAT 096-3108 (0963108) is a track pin retainer for tracked chassis, belonging to the 760GT chassis system. It is used to lock the end of the track pin, position the track link and track pad, and is compatible with 760GT chassis models such as 349/352/374/395 excavators and 982/988 loaders. It is from the same line as the 096-1861 retainer but has different positioning and installation location. The following is the core information:

Core Parameter Table (Original Manufacturer Nominal)

Item Details
Part Model CAT 096-3108 (0963108) Track Pin Dedicated Fixer, Positioning Lock Plate Structure (different from the bolt-fastening type of 096-1861)

Structure Type Integral stamped locking plate + spring snap-on fixer, including positioning boss and anti-loosening snap, no bolt holes, locking is achieved by elastic deformation engaging with the groove at the end of the track pin

Material 65Mn spring steel, integral quenching + low temperature tempering, surface Dacromet coating, hardness HRC42-48, elastic limit ≥1200MPa, salt spray resistance ≥500 hours

Key Dimensions Overall length 68mm, overall width 32mm, thickness 8mm; positioning boss diameter 18mm, height 5mm; snap-on opening width 12mm, snap-in depth 6mm, clearance with track pin groove ≤0.1mm

Compatible Models CAT Hydraulic excavators (models 349, 352, 374, 395); Large loaders (models 982, 988) (760GT tracked chassis only, compatible with 096-2730/096-2170 track shoes, 096-2360 bearings, and 096-0676 bushings).

Single weight: Approx. 0.8kg

Installation location: Groove at the end of the track pin, used to lock the track pin and prevent axial movement within the track links, ensuring stable track movement.

Compatibility and application scenarios:

Installation positioning: Secured by elastic clips at the groove at the end of the track pin, no bolts required. After installation, check that the clips are fully engaged and not loose. Often used in conjunction with 096-2730 track shoes and 096-2360 bearings to ensure track pin positioning and the transmission of impact loads during movement.

Operating Conditions: Suitable for heavy-duty applications such as mining and infrastructure construction. It can withstand axial forces and impact loads on the track pins, preventing track pin misalignment, track link wear, and other problems.

Matching Components: Track pins, track links, 096-0676 bushings, 096-2730/096-2170 track shoes, 096-2360 bearings; During replacement, simultaneously check the wear of the track pin grooves, the clearance of the track links, and the elasticity of the retainer.

Installation and Maintenance Points:
Installation Steps:
Clean the end grooves of the track pins and the retainer, ensuring they are free of oil, rust, and impurities.
Align the retainer with the track pin grooves and gently tap it with a rubber mallet until it clicks into place, ensuring the clips are fully embedded and there is no sign of looseness.
After installation, test for axial movement of the track pins and for abnormal noise from the tracks.

Maintenance Cycle: Inspect every 800 hours under standard operating conditions; shorten to 400 hours under mining conditions. Focus on checking the elasticity of the retainer clips, for deformation/breakage, and the fit of the track pin grooves.

Replacement Criteria: Replace if the clips are deformed/broken, unable to secure the track pins, if the surface coating has peeled off leading to corrosion, or if the clearance between the clips and the track pin grooves is >0.3mm. If irreparable, continue to use.
