Cooper split bearings will henceforth be sold as SKF Cooper split bearings

SKF, one of the leading automotive suppliers had acquired Cooper Roller Bearings Co Ltd in 2013 as part of its purchase of Kaydon Corporation. Now, the company has consolidated its subsidiaries and decided to market all Cooper Split Bearings ranges under the name of SKF Cooper in the future.

The SKF Cooper products will complement SKF’s existing portfolio of products and in addition ot the change in branding, the marketing will also be handled globally. The channels to market for SKF Cooper products, including product supply, responses to queries to customers, and after-sales support, will now be handled on a global basis through local SKF sales outlets.

The key advantage of using SKF Cooper split roller bearings is that they can be fitted, removed and inspected without the need to dismantle surrounding equipment. This helps users to save both maintenance related costs and time. The range of SKF Cooper bearings includes both split cylindrical roller bearings and split double row tapered roller bearings. The split double row tapered roller bearings can take axial loads in either direction. Both these products are housed and sealed in special swivel cartridges, which are suitable for mounting in pedestal or flanged outer housings.

These cartridges function rather in the form of a ball and socket joint and even if there is any shaft misalignment, the cartridge, seal and bearing move together, thus maintaining the seal on an axis parallel to the shaft. Hence, extremely close tolerances can be maintained between the housing and the shaft, resulting in a sealing performance, which is recognized as one of the best in the anti-friction bearing industry.

The superior performance of the SKF Cooper bearings is due to several innovative design features including: ductile steel clamped and wire-cut inner and outer rings for more secure positioning and superior raceway geometry respectively. A precision-manufactured ‘saw tooth’ joint on the outer race of the bearing, boosts axial alignment and makes the race itself thinner.
