CAT 068-8233 is a Caterpillar genuine fuel pump tappet bushing (pure original factory information, no additional description). It is compatible with the high-pressure common rail fuel pump tappet assembly of C13/C15/C18 engines. It serves as a positioning guide and wear-resistant support between the tappet shaft and the pump body, buffers camshaft impact, suppresses vibration and noise, and prevents wear and increased clearance caused by direct friction between the shaft and housing, ensuring fuel pump injection accuracy and stable operation (Cat®…).
Core Parameters and Information
Item Details
Part Model: CAT 068-8233 (0688233) Tappet Shaft Bushing
Structure Type: Integral cylindrical sliding bushing with lubricating oil groove in the inner bore, chamfered ends, no oil hole, adapter hole for mounting
Material: Base: Tin bronze (CuSn8P, Cu91%, Sn8%, P1%, HB80-90); Surface: PTFE+Pb solid lubricant coating (thickness 0.02-0.03 mm); Weight: 0.056 kg
Key Dimensions: Inner diameter 20 mm, outer diameter 28 mm, length 15 mm, chamfered ends 1×45°, inner bore oil groove width 1 mm, depth 0.3 mm, quantity 4 evenly distributed grooves
Performance Parameters: Rated radial load 15 kN, sliding friction coefficient ≤0.08 (oilless start ≤0.15), operating temperature -40℃ to 200℃, interference fit 0.010-0.015 mm, wear resistance life ≥5000 hours
Compatibility Standard: Complies with ISO 4379 sliding bearing standard, inner hole roundness ≤0.002 mm, surface roughness Ra≤0.4 μm
Compatible Models and Assemblies
Compatible Parts: 068-6117 needle roller bearing, 068-7875 elastic retaining ring, 068-2742 tappet retainer, 067-7842 plunger
Compatible Equipment: CAT 336D2/349D2 excavator, 980K/982M loader, D8T/D9T bulldozer (C13/C15/C18 engine), used for positioning and supporting the tappet shaft of the high-pressure common rail fuel pump and the pump body mounting hole
Matching Installation: 1 piece per tappet shaft, press-fitted into the pump body mounting hole, and used with 068-6117 bearing, 068-7875… The retaining ring provides coordinated positioning, ensuring the tappet shaft is aligned and operates stably. Cat®… Installation and Maintenance Points: Clean the pump body mounting holes and bushings. Check the bushings for deformation, cracks, and coating peeling. The surface roughness of the mounting holes should be Ra≤0.8 μm, roundness≤0.003 mm, and hole diameter 28⁰⁺⁰・⁰¹⁰ mm.
Use a special press (075-2352) to press the bushing into the mounting holes. The pressing force should be ≤5 kN, ensuring the bushing end face is flush with the pump body plane, without skewing or looseness.
After installation, check that the tappet shaft rotates smoothly without jamming, with axial movement ≤0.02 mm. The fuel pump should operate without abnormal noise or leakage. The bushing-shaft clearance should be 0.005-0.008 mm.
Maintenance: Check bushing wear every 2000 hours (replace when inner diameter wear is ≥0.02 mm), change engine oil regularly to prevent impurities from entering and causing coating failure, and check bearings and retaining rings at the same time when replacing them.
