CAT 078-7030 is a Caterpillar genuine engine crankshaft/camshaft oil retainer (radial shaft elastic retainer), compatible with 3044C/3054C engines and 306E2/307E2 excavators, 226B3/236B3 skid steer loaders. It is installed on the outside of the crankshaft front end or camshaft end bearing to axially position the bearing and shaft components, prevent oil leakage, and block impurities from entering the lubrication channels. Suitable for medium- and high-speed rotating Cat®…

Core Parameters and Information

Item Details
Part Model: CAT 078-7030 (0787030) Oil Buffer Ring

Structure Type: C-type elastic retainer ring with mounting notch, suitable for shaft grooves

Material: 65Mn spring steel, galvanized and passivated surface, rust-proof, wear-resistant, and with excellent elasticity

Key Dimensions: Inner diameter 50 mm, outer diameter 58 mm, thickness 2 mm, groove width 2.1 mm, notch width 3 mm

Performance Parameters: Rated operating temperature -40℃ to 120℃, elastic deformation ≤0.15 mm, shear strength ≥800 MPa

Compatibility Standard: Complies with SAE J120 standard, suitable for 3044C/3054C engine crankshaft/camshaft positioning

Matching Relationship Used in conjunction with crankshaft front oil seals and camshaft bearings for axial positioning and oil sealing of shaft components.

Compatible Models and Applications

Compatible Equipment: 306E2/307E2 mini excavators, 226B3/236B3/246B3 skid steer loaders, compatible with 3044C/3054C engines.

Applications: Installed in the shaft groove at the front end of the crankshaft or the end of the camshaft to axially fix bearings, gears, and other components, preventing axial movement during operation; also serves as an auxiliary oil seal, preventing oil leakage along the journal and ensuring stable pressure in the lubrication system (Cat®…).

Used with: Crankshaft front oil seals, camshaft bearings, and shaft positioning sleeves for shaft end sealing and component positioning in the engine lubrication system.

Installation and Maintenance Points: Clean the journal grooves, checking for burrs and rust. The groove width and retaining ring thickness clearance should be 0.02-0.05 mm.

Use specialized retaining ring pliers to pry open the retaining ring, insert it into the groove, ensuring a complete and smooth fit without any jamming. The outer circumference of the retaining ring should be flush with the journal surface.

Post-installation inspection: Axial pushing of the retaining ring should not cause any looseness; rotating the shaft should produce no abnormal friction noise; start the engine and run it for 30 minutes; there should be no oil leakage or abnormal shaft vibration.

Maintenance: Check the retaining ring’s elasticity and surface condition every 1000 hours. Replace it if the elasticity fails or the galvanized layer peels off. Replace the retaining ring every time shaft parts are disassembled to avoid repeated use that could lead to elasticity degradation.
