CAT 095-6657 (0956657) is a snap ring for the track tensioning cylinder of the Caterpillar 400GT tracked chassis. It is compatible with models such as the 349/352/374/395 excavators and the 982/988 loaders. It works in conjunction with the 095-6009 piston snap ring, 095-6034 retaining ball, and 095-6091/095-6429 retainer. Its core function is to axially and elastically lock the piston assembly of the tensioning cylinder, absorbing impact and compensating for assembly clearances. It prevents component movement under high-pressure conditions, ensuring stable pressure and reliable sealing of the track tensioning system. It is a key elastic locking component of the track tensioning mechanism.

Item Details
Part Model CAT 095-6657 (0956657) Spring Snap Ring

Type Axial elastic snap ring for track tensioning cylinder, compatible with 400GT track tensioning cylinder, matching 095-6009/095-6034/095-6091/095-6429

Material 65Mn spring steel, integral quenching + low temperature tempering (hardness HRC45-50), surface galvanized passivation (96h salt spray corrosion resistance), high elasticity, fatigue resistance, suitable for Cat® Parts operating conditions from -40℃ to 120℃

Key Dimensions Free diameter approx. 110-120mm, groove diameter approx. 105-115mm, thickness approx. 3-4mm, width approx. 5-6mm, elastic deformation ≤5mm, matching 095-6091/095-6429 Fixture clearance ≤ 0.1mm
Compatible Models: CAT 349, 352, 374, 395 excavators, 982, 988 loaders, and other 400GT tracked chassis equipment
Function: Axially elastic locking piston assembly, absorbs hydraulic shock and assembly clearance, prevents piston/fixture movement, ensures cylinder sealing and pressure stability, and protects the tension spring and cylinder.
Compatibility and Application:
Applicable Location: Installed between the 095-6091/095-6429 fixture and piston assembly, embedded in the piston groove, elastically pre-tightening and locking the fixture and piston, working with the 095-6009 retaining ring and 095-6034 retaining ball to limit axial displacement, and with the 095-1689 O-ring to prevent leakage, ensuring stable transmission of tension force to the track.

Application Scenarios: Suitable for heavy-duty, high-frequency applications in mining and infrastructure, bearing hydraulic pressure exceeding 35MPa and piston reciprocating impacts, preventing component movement that could lead to tension failure, excessively loose/tight tracks, and misalignment.

Core Functions: Elastic locking, impact buffering, and clearance compensation, suppressing axial movement of components to ≤0.05mm, extending the lifespan of seals and cylinders by over 40%.

Installation and Maintenance Points:

Installation: Use dedicated snap ring pliers to insert the snap ring into the piston groove, ensuring complete insertion without any warping; ensure a tight fit with the 095-6091/095-6429 retainer, with a gap ≤0.1mm; after installation, test for axial movement ≤0.05mm to avoid uneven wear on seals.

Maintenance Cycle: Check the retaining ring for elasticity, deformation, and breakage every 500 hours; for harsh conditions such as mining, this period is shortened to 200 hours.

Replacement criteria: The retaining ring must be replaced when it is broken, deformed, or has lost elasticity (free diameter deviation > 0.5mm) or the fit clearance > 0.15mm. Original parts should be given priority to avoid locking failure and cylinder leakage caused by size/material deviation.
