CAT 095-6848 (0956848) is an internal retaining ring for the track tensioning cylinder of the Caterpillar 400GT. It is compatible with models such as the 349/352/374/395 excavators and the 982/988 loaders. It works in conjunction with the 095-6768 lower bearing cap, 095-6769 upper bearing cap, 095-6429 retainer, and 095-6657 spring retaining ring. Its core function is to axially position the internal bearings and sealing components of the tensioning cylinder, preventing component movement under high pressure conditions and ensuring stable operation of the track tensioning system. Application Scenarios: Heavy-duty, high-frequency working conditions such as mining and infrastructure construction, bearing track tension force and ground impact, preventing axial movement of bearings and seals that could lead to wear, seal failure, excessively loose/tight tracks, and track deviation.

Installation and Maintenance Points

Installation: Use special retaining ring pliers to pry open the retaining ring and insert it into the groove on the inner wall of the cylinder, ensuring it is completely locked into the bottom of the groove; ensure it fits snugly against the bearing end face, with an axial clearance ≤0.05mm to avoid uneven bearing wear.

Maintenance Cycle: Check the retaining ring for deformation, breakage, and elasticity decay every 1000 hours. In harsh working conditions such as mining, this period should be shortened to 500 hours.

Replacement Standard: The retaining ring must be replaced if it is deformed, broken, lacks elasticity (cannot be reset after prying), or the groove fit clearance is >0.1mm. Original parts are preferred to avoid positioning failures or component movement caused by dimensional/material deviations.
