CAT 114-9483 is a Caterpillar bearing/shaft end elastic retainer, mainly used for bearing positioning and shaft end locking in excavators, loaders, and other equipment such as wheel ends, final drive, or hydraulic components. It is compatible with wheel hub bearings, final drive spindles, hydraulic cylinder piston shaft ends, and other parts of Cat 320D/336D excavators, 950M loaders, and other models. It is a key positioning component to prevent axial movement of components and ensure transmission accuracy. The following is structured technical and application information:
Core Technical Parameters
Item Details
Basic Attributes Model 114-9483, Type: Elastic retaining ring type retainer, Material: 65Mn spring steel (hardness HRC48-52), Surface: galvanized passivation (corrosion resistance ≥96 hours salt spray rust-free), Single weight: approx. 0.12 kg, Applicable temperature: -40℃ to +150℃, Elastic limit ≥1200 MPa, Fatigue life ≥8000 cycles
Key Dimensions
Matching shaft diameter: 65 mm (tolerance 0 to -0.015 mm), Outer diameter: 85 mm (tolerance +0.010 to +0.020 mm), Thickness: 3 mm (tolerance ±0.05 mm), Opening width: 8 mm, Retaining ring groove width: 3.2 mm (tolerance +0.02 to +0.04 mm), Groove depth: 1.5 mm, Chamfer: 0.5 mm×45°, elastic opening ≤5 mm, radial runout ≤0.03 mm after installation. Compatible Models and Applications: Compatible with Cat 320D, 323D, 336D excavators, 950M, 966M loaders. Used for axial positioning of wheel hub bearings, fixing of final drive reaction hubs, locking of hydraulic cylinder piston shaft ends, and limiting of steering knuckle kingpin bearings. Matching parts include retaining ring installation tools and shaft seals. Rated axial load ≥35 kN, ultimate axial load ≥50 kN. Performance Parameters: Elastic recovery rate ≥95%, clearance between retaining ring and groove ≤0.02 mm after installation, impact load ≥10 kN, no loosening or abnormal noise after assembly, suitable for equipment vibration frequency ≤100 Hz, protection level IP64 (when used with seals). Structural and Performance Advantages: Precise positioning: 65Mn The spring steel material offers moderate elasticity, fitting snugly against the retaining ring groove after installation, effectively limiting axial movement of components such as bearings and hubs, ensuring the operational accuracy of the transmission system, and preventing wear and abnormal noise caused by displacement.
High Reliability: The galvanized and passivated surface treatment provides excellent corrosion resistance, making it suitable for outdoor, humid, and dusty conditions in construction machinery. The high elastic recovery rate of the spring steel ensures it is not easily deformed over long-term use, resulting in a long service life.
Easy Installation: The open-type elastic structure allows for quick installation and removal using retaining ring pliers, requiring no special equipment. This facilitates on-site emergency repairs and routine maintenance. No additional tightening is needed after installation, saving time.
High Compatibility: High dimensional accuracy ensures precise matching with shaft diameters and retaining ring grooves, making it compatible with various transmission and hydraulic components of Caterpillar construction machinery. Its versatility reduces the variety of items in inventory.
Installation and Maintenance Points:
**Before installation, clean the shaft end, retaining ring groove, and retainer, checking for burrs, cracks, and rust.** Use dedicated retaining ring pliers to open the retainer and smoothly insert it into the retaining ring groove, ensuring it is fully engaged without misalignment. After installation, gently push it by hand; there should be no looseness, and radial runout should be ≤0.03 mm.
Run the device for 30 minutes, checking for axial movement and abnormal noise. Every 1000 hours of maintenance, check the retainer’s elasticity and surface condition. Replace the retainer if the elastic opening is >5 mm, the surface rust area exceeds 10%, or cracks appear.
When replacing, prioritize original parts to ensure material hardness, elasticity, and dimensional accuracy. After installation, check the condition of the seals and bearings to prevent component wear or detachment due to retaining failure, which could lead to equipment malfunction.
