CAT 140-1185 is a Caterpillar double-row self-aligning ball bearing, suitable for drive axles, differentials, or gearboxes of excavators, loaders, and other equipment. It can automatically compensate for angular deviations between the shaft and the bearing housing (≤2°), and can withstand radial loads and bidirectional light axial loads, making it suitable for stable operation under heavy load and vibration conditions. The following is structured technical and application information:
Core Technical Parameters
Item Details
Basic Attributes
Model 140-1185, Type: Double row self-aligning ball bearing (with seal), Material: Chrome steel (52100), Outer ring spherical, inner ring double raceway, surface carburized and quenched (HRC60-64), Single weight approximately 3.2 kg, Applicable temperature: -40℃ to +120℃, Corrosion resistance rating: IP54, Rated speed: 2500 r/min (grease lubrication), Recommended lubrication: Cat DEO-ULS 15W-40, Seal type: Contact rubber seal (nitrile rubber)
Key Dimensions
Inner diameter: 100 mm (shaft diameter tolerance h7), Outer diameter: 180 mm (bearing housing tolerance H8), Width: 46 mm (tolerance ±0.12 mm), Ball diameter: 16 mm (24 balls, evenly distributed in double rows), Cage material: PA66+GF30, Clearance rating: CN (radial clearance) 0.012-0.028 mm), chamfer 1.5 mm, installation interference 0.01-0.02 mm
Compatible Models and Applications: Compatible with Cat 320D2 and 336D2 excavators, 966M and 972M loaders, used for drive axle differentials, slewing gearbox input shafts, and final drive reduction gearboxes. Supporting parts include bearing housing 532-9426, retainer 9R-2498, and gasket 7Y-0597. Rated radial load ≥150 kN, axial load ≥30 kN. Compensates for shaft misalignment and installation errors, prevents bearing seizure, and reduces vibration and noise.
Performance Parameters: Rated dynamic load C≥165 kN, rated static load C0≥105 kN, fatigue life ≥6000 hours, limiting speed 3000 r/min (oil lubrication), coefficient of friction ≤0.0015, allowable angular deviation ≤2°, seal lip pressure… 0.1-0.3 MPa, waterproof and dustproof, suitable for humid and dusty conditions.
Structural and Performance Advantages:
* **Self-aligning design:** The outer ring spherical surface and inner ring double raceway fit automatically compensate for angular deviations between the shaft and bearing housing, adapting to shaft deflection or installation errors, avoiding edge contact wear, and extending service life.
* **Double-row load-bearing capacity:** Evenly distributed double-row steel balls provide strong load-bearing capacity, capable of simultaneously with radial loads and bidirectional light axial loads, suitable for complex stress conditions in transmission systems, and improving operational stability.
* **Contact seal:** Nitrile rubber seals effectively prevent dust, moisture, and impurities from entering, while reducing grease leakage, suitable for harsh operating conditions, and reducing maintenance frequency.
* **High-strength cage:** PA66+GF30 cage material provides high rigidity and good temperature resistance, precisely guiding the movement of the steel balls, reducing friction and wear, and improving bearing rotation accuracy and reliability.
Installation and Maintenance Points:
**Before installation, clean the bearing, journal, and bearing housing to remove oil, rust, and burrs.** Install the inner ring hot (80-100℃) and the outer ring cold. Use a dedicated installation tool (e.g., Cat 1U-0624). Do not strike the bearing. Ensure the seal fits snugly and the clearance meets CN requirements.
After installation, check for radial runout ≤ 0.02 mm and axial runout ≤ 0.03 mm. Run the bearing for 1 hour; the bearing temperature should be ≤ 80℃, with no abnormal noise or leakage.
Maintenance: Check the clearance and seal every 2000 hours. Replace immediately if the clearance is > 0.04 mm or the seal is damaged. Add grease every 500 hours, filling the bearing cavity to 1/3-1/2 of its volume. Avoid excessive grease to prevent overheating.
