CAT 148-8002 is a Caterpillar bucket tooth retainer (also commonly known as a tooth locking pin retainer) for construction machinery. It is compatible with the J200 series bucket tooth holders and tips of small and medium-sized excavators/loaders. Its core function is to prevent loosening and lock the tooth pins, ensuring the teeth do not fall off during heavy-duty operations. The following is precise technical and application information:
Core Technical Parameters
Item Details
Part Model: CAT 148-8002 (1488002) Bucket Tooth Retainer, Matching Pin 8E-6208/1U-4208 (J200 Series), Compatible with J200 Series Tooth Holders and Tips
Core Material: 65Mn spring steel, integral quenching + low-temperature tempering, surface blackening + oxidation treatment, tensile strength 980 MPa, elastic modulus 206 GPa, single weight approximately 0.09 kg (0.20 lb)
Key Dimensions: Locking pin hole diameter 11.13 mm diameter, latch width 12.7 mm, total length 60.33 mm, locking stroke 5 mm, compatible pin diameter 11.13 mm (0.438″)
Suitable working conditions: Heavy-duty abrasive working conditions such as earthmoving and rock excavation; suitable for high-frequency impact and vibration loading operations.
Compatible models: CAT 305.5E2/306E2 excavators (J200 bucket teeth), 906M loaders (J200 bucket system), 226D3 skid steer loaders (small bucket teeth protectors).
Core compatibility: J200 series shovel teeth and tooth holders, with matching fixing pins. 8E-6208/1U-4208 features a spring-loaded locking mechanism for tool-free, quick installation and removal.
Core Functions and Structural Features:
Anti-loosening Locking: The spring-loaded locking tongue design automatically locks the pin after installation, preventing pin movement or dislodgement under high-frequency vibration and impact conditions, ensuring reliable shovel tooth connection.
Quick Maintenance: Tool-free installation and removal; simply press the locking tongue to engage the pin hole during installation, and gently pull the locking tongue out during disassembly, suitable for quick shovel tooth replacement needs on construction sites.
Wear-resistant and Corrosion-resistant: Made of spring steel with a black oxide treatment, suitable for humid and dusty conditions, reducing rust and wear, and extending the lifespan of the retainer.
Installation and Maintenance Points:
Installation Steps:
Clean the pin holes of the tooth base, the retainer, and the pin surface to remove oil, rust, and impurities, ensuring no jamming.
Insert the pin into the pin holes of the tooth base and shovel teeth, aligning it with the retainer installation position. Press the locking tongue into the pin groove until you hear a “click”. The lock is engaged when the click sound is heard.
Gently pull the retainer and pin to confirm there is no looseness and that the bolt is fully engaged in the groove without any gaps.
Maintenance Recommendations: Check the locking condition every 50 working hours. If the bolt is deformed, its elasticity is diminished, or there is severe surface corrosion, replace the retainer and matching pin immediately.
Replace the retainer at the same time as replacing the locking teeth to prevent the old retainer from failing due to insufficient elasticity.
