CAT 154-2558 is a Caterpillar genuine shaft seal sleeve, adapted for the sealing positions of rotating shafts in hydraulic/transmission systems. It is used to position the seal, prevent extrusion, and isolate contaminants. Commonly found in the travel motors, rotary joints, or cylinder guide sleeves of small and medium-sized excavators/loaders, it is a precision sealing support component and must be assembled according to original factory tolerances to ensure seal life.

Item Details
Part Model: CAT 154-2558 (1542558) Seal Sleeve
Material and Manufacturing Process: Carbon steel/alloy steel precision machined + surface blackening/galvanized passivation, dimensional tolerance ≤ ±0.02mm; some batches are equipped with nitrile rubber (NBR) anti-scratch rings, oil-resistant/wear-resistant
Structural Specifications: Shaft positioning sleeve, outer diameter approx. 65mm, inner diameter approx. 45mm, length approx. 32mm (precise values subject to actual measurement at the installation position/drawing); static sealing position, non-rotating/non-self-lubricating, equipped with O-ring groove (commonly 1.5mm × 3.1mm)
Unit Weight: Approx. 0.52 kg (1.15 lbs)
Rated Operating Conditions: Hydraulic oil/gear oil environment, temperature -40°C to +100°C, pressure ≤25 MPa; per 2000-hour inspection for deformation/corrosion.
Compatible Models: Compatible with CAT 307, 312 and other small excavators, 906/907 wheel loaders, and some small bulldozers’ travel/slewing hydraulic systems; final verification is based on both shaft diameter and mounting slot width.
Installation Parameters: Interference fit (0.01–0.03mm), heated to 80–100°C for cold assembly; after assembly, coaxiality ≤0.05mm, end face runout ≤0.03mm.
Compatibility and Application Points:
Functional Positioning: Serves as a rigid support for the seal, preventing the sealing lip from being squeezed out under high pressure, while also isolating the radial misalignment between the shaft and the housing, protecting the seal and reducing the risk of leakage.
Matching Specifications: Must be replaced as a complete set with original equipment manufacturer (OEM) seals (e.g., 154-2559 O-rings, 154-2560 dust rings). Mixing seals of different brands/sizes is prohibited. Clean the shaft surface/bore before installation, ensuring it is free of burrs/rust.
Replacement Standards: Replace immediately if the sleeve shows deformation, wear, rust, or damage to the sealing groove. The sealing surface must be free of scratches after assembly, otherwise premature leakage may occur.
Installation and Maintenance Procedures:
Removing the Old Sleeve: Remove with a special puller, avoiding damage to the shaft/bore; check the journal surface roughness Ra≤0.8μm, ensuring no scoring.
Preparing the New Part: Heat the sleeve to 80–100°C (oil temperature/hot air), maintain the hot state for 10 minutes, then quickly press it into place. After cooling, automatically tighten the interference fit.
Seal Assembly: Apply hydraulic oil before installing the O-ring, press it into the groove using a guide sleeve to avoid twisting; after assembly, check the sealing lip fit for no air bubbles/misalignment. Maintenance cycle: 2000 hours under standard operating conditions; 1000 hours under high dust/high temperature operating conditions, checking for loose sleeves, leaking seals, and worn shaft surfaces.
