CAT 159-5422 is a Caterpillar single-row tapered roller bearing, commonly used in heavy-duty transmission parts such as excavator slewing bearings, loader gearbox axles, and grader drive axles. It is compatible with models such as the 336D/349D excavator, 966K loader, and 140M grader. Its core function is to withstand combined radial and unidirectional axial loads, limit shaft movement, and transmit torque. The following is structured technical and application information:

Item Details
Basic Attributes
Model 159-5422, Single-row tapered roller bearing, suitable for 336D/349D excavator slewing mechanism, 966K loader gearbox, 140M grader drive axle, material is chromium bearing steel (GCr15, hardened HRC 60-64), operating temperature -40℃ to +120℃, single weight approximately 2.8 kg, suitable for oil lubrication, rated radial dynamic load ≥125 kN, rated axial dynamic load ≥90 kN, operating speed ≤2600 rpm, wear life ≥8000 hours, used for combined load bearing and positioning in transmission parts, preventing axial movement.
Key Dimensions
Inner diameter 95.00 mm (3.740 in, tolerance P6, +0.012/-0.018 mm), outer diameter 160.00 mm (6.299 in, tolerance… P6 (+0.020/-0.025 mm), total width 38.00 mm (1.496 in, tolerance ±0.18 mm), inner ring large end chamfer C2.5 mm, small end chamfer C1.5 mm, inner hole roughness Ra≤0.8 μm, fits standard journals, inner ring taper angle 12°, consistent with the outer ring taper to ensure good fit between roller and raceway.
Material and Process: GCr15 chromium bearing steel → forging → spheroidizing annealing → rough turning → finish turning → quenching (860℃ oil quenching) → low temperature tempering (180℃ holding for 2h) → precision grinding → ultra-precision grinding → rust prevention treatment. It possesses high hardness, high wear resistance, and good dimensional stability, suitable for medium-high speed and medium-heavy load conditions.
Compatible Machines: Cat 336D/349D excavator slewing bearing, 966K/972M loader gearbox second axle, 140M/160M… The grader drive axle and 420D skid steer loader transmission system are used to withstand combined radial and unidirectional axial loads, ensuring smooth operation of transmission components and extending shaft life.
Assembly Fit: Compatible with 95.00 mm diameter journals (tolerance k5, +0.015/+0.005 mm), interference fit 0.005-0.015 mm (journal and inner ring), hot fitting (oil temperature 80-90℃) or cold fitting, do not hammer during installation, radial runout ≤0.02 mm after installation.
Installation and Maintenance Points: Before installation, clean the journals, bearing housing bores, and bearings. Check for scratches, rust, and dents. Measure the inner diameter of the journal and bearing, and the outer diameter of the bearing housing bore and bearing to ensure that the interference and clearance meet the requirements. The surface roughness Ra of the bearing housing bore ≤1.6 μm.
For hot mounting (immerse the bearing in clean machine oil at 80-90℃ for 20-30 minutes), use a special tool to vertically press it into the journal, ensuring the bearing end face fits snugly against the shaft shoulder without misalignment. For cold mounting, use a hydraulic nut to evenly press the bearing in; never strike the bearing directly with a hammer to prevent deformation and damage to the raceway.
Maintenance Recommendations: Check bearing clearance every 2000 hours. Replace immediately if radial clearance > 0.15 mm, or if abnormal noise or temperature rise occurs. Use ISO VG 46 hydraulic oil for daily lubrication, maintaining the oil level at the center of the lowest rolling element. Check oil quality every 500 hours and replace the filter element regularly to prevent impurities from entering the bearing.
