CAT 198-8168 is a Caterpillar self-lubricating spherical plain bearing (spherical plain bearing), suitable for boom/stick connecting pins, cylinder trunnions, and other parts of Cat 320/323 excavators, 966K loaders, and other models. It is used to absorb multi-angle swing and radial loads, and is suitable for medium and low speed, frequent swing and heavy load conditions. It is a key component to ensure flexible rotation of joint parts and prevent jamming. The following is structured technical and application information:
Core Technical Parameters
Item Details

Suitable Models and Locations
Suitable for: Cat 320 One piece is provided for each of the following: excavator boom and stick connecting pins; 323 excavator stick cylinder trunnions; 966K loader steering tie rod joints; and D6T bulldozer idler wheel swing arm joints. These are used to bear radial loads and compensate for angles (maximum swing angle ±15°).
Performance Parameters: Rated radial static load 120 kN, rated radial dynamic load 85 kN, coefficient of friction ≤0.06 (dry friction), rated swing angle ±15°, fatigue life ≥5000 hours, outer ring hardness HRC58-62, inner ring hardness HRC52-56.
Structural and Performance Advantages:
Spherical Angle Compensation: The spherical design absorbs ±15° swing error, adapting to multi-angle movements of the joint and avoiding jamming and wear caused by installation deviations.
Self-Lubricating and Durable: PTFE fabric gaskets provide stable self-lubrication, suitable for oil-free/low-oil conditions, reducing maintenance frequency, and suitable for harsh construction environments.
Heavy-duty fatigue resistance: The alloy outer ring + inner ring design provides high hardness and toughness, capable of withstanding a radial static load of 120 kN and achieving a fatigue life of over 5000 hours, suitable for frequent impacts under heavy-duty conditions.
Reliable positioning: Features a locating lip design for quick positioning during installation, preventing circumferential rotation of the bearing and improving installation efficiency and accuracy.
Installation and maintenance points: Before installation, clean the mounting holes and pins, checking for cracks and detached gaskets; install using the cold pressing method (using specialized tooling to press in, avoiding hammering), ensuring the locating lip is embedded in the mounting groove, and that rotation is smooth and free of jamming after installation.
Maintenance every 2500 hours: Check for spherical wear (replace when spherical clearance > 0.2 mm), clean surface oil, and add NLGI 2 lithium-based grease if operating conditions are harsh; check swing angle flexibility and replace the bearing if necessary.
Original parts should be used first. Aftermarket parts may have problems such as insufficient spherical precision or detached pads, which can easily lead to jamming of joints and wear of pins, affecting the normal operation of the working device.
