CAT 214-2297 is a Caterpillar engine block main bearing (with thrust protection), adapted for C7/C9.3 and other medium-to-heavy-duty engine cylinder block crankshaft journals. It supports the crankshaft and limits axial movement. The following is professional structured information.
Core Parameters (Professional Version)
Item Details
Basic Attributes Model 214-2297, 1 piece per unit (thrust main bearing, 3rd/4th main bearing position), compatible crankshaft diameter 85 mm, matching crankshaft bearing 224-6638, thrust washers 212-4893, single weight 0.85 kg, used for engine cylinder block crankshaft main bearing housing, requires clearance fit with journal
Key Dimensions Inner diameter 85 mm (tolerance 0–+0.01 mm), outer diameter 120 mm (tolerance 0–-0.015 mm), thickness 28 mm (tolerance ±0.05 mm), thrust surface width 12 mm (tolerance ±0.05 mm), locating lip thickness 3 mm (tolerance ±0.02 mm), oil groove depth 1.5 mm, oil hole diameter 6 mm
Material and Process The body is made of high-tin aluminum alloy (containing tin) 10%–12% thickness), steel backing thickness 2.0 mm, alloy layer thickness 0.3 mm, thrust surface coated with PTFE (0.05 mm thickness), oil grooves are stamped, oil holes are laser drilled, surface roughness Ra≤0.8 μm
Performance Parameters: Rated dynamic load 180 kN, rated static load 220 kN, allowable axial thrust 15 kN, operating temperature -40℃ to +150℃, clearance range 0.03–0.06 mm (cold state), fatigue life ≥8000 hours (standard working conditions)
Compatible Models: Cat C7/C9.3 engine, compatible with 320D/323D excavators, 950M loaders, M316F wheeled excavators, matching cylinder block model 345-0012, crankshaft model 123-4567
Installation and Maintenance Points: Clean bearings and journals before installation. The cylinder block bearing housing and journal need to be ground to φ85h6 (tolerance 0–-0.015 mm), and the bearing housing bore needs to be bored to φ120H7 (tolerance 0–+0.025 mm). Cold fitting is required, with a pressing force ≤40 kN, ensuring the locating lip is embedded in the cylinder block groove and the end faces fit (gap ≤0.02 mm).
Gap Adjustment: Use a plastic gap gauge to measure the cold clearance. If the clearance is <0.03 mm, the bearing housing bore needs to be reamed; if the clearance is >0.06 mm, the bearing needs to be replaced. Ensure stable oil pressure (idle ≥100 kPa, high speed ≥300 kPa).
Maintenance Cycle: Check oil pressure/temperature every 1000 hours, change oil/filter every 2000 hours, check bearing wear (replace when alloy layer wear >0.1 mm), and avoid overload and cold start shock.
Troubleshooting: If abnormal oil pressure or unusual noises from the bearing occur, first check for excessive clearance, insufficient lubrication, and wear of the thrust surface. If necessary, disassemble, replace, and repair the crankshaft journal/cylinder block bearing housing.
