CAT 237-2859 is a thrust needle roller bearing designed by Caterpillar specifically for gearboxes, drivetrains, and hydraulic pumps. It features a full complement needle roller structure with a cage, designed to withstand unidirectional/bidirectional axial loads, suitable for low-to-medium speed, high axial force applications. It offers high axial load capacity, compact installation, and low friction. Key information is as follows:
Core Parameters
Item Details
Basic Attributes
Model 237-2859, Thrust Needle Roller Bearing (no inner ring, journal/thrust disc raceway), withstands pure axial loads, suitable for gearbox planetary carriers, hydraulic pump end caps, and driveshaft thrust components.
Compatible Machines
CAT 938/950/962 loaders, D3/D4/D5 bulldozers, 307/308 excavators, 3204/3054 engine drivetrain systems, compatible gearbox models: CAT 4F/3R, planetary gearboxes, etc.
Material and Manufacturing Process
Needle rollers are made of high carbon chromium bearing steel (GCr15, HRC). 60-64), cage made of phenolic resin/stamped steel plate, thrust washers made of carburized and quenched steel (HRC 58-62); operating temperature -30℃ to +120℃, oil lubrication required (ISO VG 32-68)
Key Dimensions: Outer diameter 57.15mm (2.25in), inner diameter 44.45mm (1.75in), height 11.11mm (0.4375in), needle roller diameter 3.97mm, quantity 12, weight approx. 0.08kg, clearance with thrust surface 0.01-0.02mm
Functional Parameters: Axial rated load 120kN, limiting speed 5000rpm (oil lubrication), installation method is clearance fit (thrust surface roughness Ra≤0.8μm)
Compatible Components: Thrust plate 4B-4320, planetary gears 6L-9774 requires a special mounting sleeve. It is recommended to use it with transmission fluid and replace the transmission filter regularly.
Alternative Models: Can replace older thrust bearings such as 310-6157 and 141-5950.
Installation and Maintenance Points:
Preparation before installation: Clean the thrust surface and bearing mounting cavity, removing burrs, oil, and metal debris; check for missing or deformed needle rollers and undamaged cage; measure the flatness and roughness of the thrust surface to ensure it meets requirements; the thrust surface must be hardened (HRC≥58), with a roughness Ra≤0.8μm.
Installation Steps: Apply a small amount of transmission fluid to the thrust surface. Gently place the bearing into the mounting cavity, avoiding impact to the needle rollers and cage; install the thrust disc/journal, ensuring coaxiality ≤0.02mm; install the end cover/planetary carrier, and tighten the fixing bolts to the specified torque (e.g., 50-60 N·m for transmission end cover bolts). Maintenance and Replacement: Check the bearing’s operating condition every 2000 hours and listen for any abnormal noises; check for metal debris in the transmission fluid each time you change it; replace the bearing immediately when the needle rollers are worn, the cage is damaged, or the axial clearance exceeds the limit.
