CAT 246-8796 is a specialized retainer used by Caterpillar for positioning engine valve mechanisms and transmission components. Its core function is to precisely lock the position of relevant components, preventing loosening and displacement during operation. It is compatible with various construction machinery engines and transmission systems, ensuring stable and reliable equipment operation. The following is structured technical and application information:

Core Technical Parameters

Item Details

Key Dimensions
Main body length: 52 mm (tolerance ±0.1 mm), Main body width: 18 mm (tolerance ±0.08 mm), Main body thickness: 6 mm (tolerance ±0.05 mm), Positioning pin diameter: 8 mm (tolerance 0/+0.015 mm), Positioning pin length: 12 mm, Bolt hole diameter: 10 mm (tolerance 0/+0.02 mm) (mm), positioning groove depth 3 mm, positioning accuracy ≤0.03 mm, fitting gap with mounting base ≤0.02 mm
Compatible Models and Applications: Compatible with Cat 3126, 3406E, C15 engines, as well as 950M, 962M wheel loaders, 140M graders, etc. Used for valve rocker arm shaft positioning, camshaft timing assembly fixing, and transmission gearbox component locking, ensuring accurate mechanism positioning and stable operation.
Performance Parameters: Rated tensile strength ≥1080 MPa, yield strength ≥930 MPa, shear strength ≥620 MPa, fatigue limit ≥500 MPa (10^7 cycles), corrosion resistance reaches ISO 9227 neutral salt spray test with no significant rust after 48 hours, impact load ≥50 J/cm²
Structural and Performance Advantages: 42CrMo Made of tempered alloy steel, possessing both high strength and good toughness, it can withstand vibration and impact loads from the engine and transmission system, preventing deformation or breakage of the retainer, and is suitable for harsh working conditions in engineering machinery.

One-piece stamping and blackening treatment results in a compact structure, convenient installation, and excellent rust resistance, extending component lifespan and reducing maintenance frequency.

A double anti-loosening design with locating pins and bolts ensures high positioning accuracy, effectively preventing components from loosening under high-speed operation or vibration, ensuring precise valve timing and transmission component positioning, and improving equipment reliability.

Installation and Maintenance Points: Before installation, clean the mounting surface and retainer surface to remove oil, iron filings, and other impurities. Inspect the retainer for cracks, deformation, and other defects. First, insert the locating pins for positioning, then use a torque wrench to tighten the bolts to the specified torque, ensuring a tight fit without loosening.

After installation, check that relevant components (such as valve rocker arms, camshafts, etc.) move freely without jamming and are accurately positioned. During the initial operation period (first 100 hours), periodically check the bolt torque; if torque decay occurs, retighten it promptly.

Maintenance: Every 2000 hours, check the appearance and positioning accuracy of the retainer. If surface corrosion, deformation, cracks, or positioning accuracy exceeding tolerances are found, replace it immediately. Replacement must be performed according to the original manufacturer’s specifications to ensure reliable positioning and locking. Damaged or non-compliant retainers must not be used.
