CAT 274-3814 is a Caterpillar shaft retainer ring used to fix the axial position of bearings, bushings, and other components, preventing displacement during operation. It is suitable for shaft systems in construction machinery such as excavators and loaders. The following is raw data and does not include replacement parts information for Cat®…
Core Technical Parameters (Raw Data)
Item Details
Basic Attributes Model 274-3814, Type: Shaft Elastic Retaining Ring, Material: 65Mn Spring Steel, Single Weight: 0.035 kg, Operating Temperature: -40℃ to +120℃, Suitable Shaft Diameter: 45 mm, Surface Treatment: Oxidized Black, Corrosion Resistance: ≥96 hours Salt Spray, Hardness: HRC 42-48, Elastic Modulus: 206 GPa, Coefficient of Thermal Expansion: 12×10^-6/℃, Fitting Clearance: 0.05-0.10 mm
Key Dimensions (Metric / Imperial): Inner Diameter: 45 mm (1.772 in), Outer Diameter: 52 mm (2.047 in), Thickness: 2.0 mm (0.079 in), Opening Width: 3.0 mm, Opening Clearance: 0.8-1.2 mm, Inner Diameter Tolerance: +0.08/-0.05 mm, Outer Diameter Tolerance: + 0.05/-0.03 mm, thickness tolerance + 0.10/-0.05 mm, flatness ≤0.05 mm, surface roughness Ra≤1.6 μm
Performance Parameters: Tensile strength ≥1000 MPa, yield strength ≥800 MPa, elastic limit ≥750 MPa, fatigue limit ≥450 MPa (10^7 cycles), radial elastic force after assembly ≥1.2 kN, disassembly cycles ≤5 times (ensuring elasticity), shear strength ≥600 MPa
Structure and Adaptability Characteristics: Elastic fastening structure: integrally stamped from 65Mn spring steel, possessing good elasticity and toughness. After installation, it relies on its own elasticity to tightly adhere to the shaft groove, achieving axial positioning of the bearing. Suitable for medium-low speed and medium-light load conditions, effectively preventing axial movement of components.
Versatility and Compatibility: The standard shaft uses a flexible retaining ring structure, compatible with bearing positioning in Caterpillar 320D and 323D excavators and 938K loaders, such as slewing bearings and travel motor bearings. Installation is convenient and requires no additional fasteners.
Anti-Loosening and Wear-Resistant: The anodized black surface treatment enhances wear resistance and corrosion resistance, meeting the needs of harsh working conditions, ensuring positioning stability, and extending component life.
Compatible Models and Applications:
Excavators: Positioning of slewing bearings, travel motor shafts, and boom pin bearings in models such as 320D, 323D, and 326D, preventing axial displacement of bearings, ensuring stable operation of the working device, suitable for municipal and infrastructure operations.
Loaders: Positioning of gearbox shafts and drive axle bearings in models such as 938K and 950K, suitable for frequent material loading and unloading operations, improving work efficiency.
Other: Compatible with the shaft systems of some Caterpillar bulldozers and graders, suitable for bearing positioning under light to medium loads and vibration conditions.
Installation and Maintenance Points (Original Data)
Installation: Clean the shaft groove and retaining ring, ensuring they are free of oil and metal shavings. Inspect the retaining ring for cracks, deformation, and good elasticity.
Use a dedicated retaining ring pliers to install the retaining ring, opening it to fit into the shaft groove, ensuring it is fully engaged. After installation, check that the retaining ring and shaft groove fit tightly without any looseness.
After installation, test run for 30 minutes, monitoring for any abnormal vibrations or noises, and ensuring axial displacement is ≤0.05 mm.
Maintenance: Check the retaining ring’s elasticity and wear condition every 500 hours. Replace it immediately if elasticity decreases or wear exceeds 0.2 mm.
Use a dedicated tool for disassembly. Do not pry forcefully to avoid deforming or breaking the retaining ring, which would affect its reuse.
