CAT 316-8087 is a Caterpillar Heavy-Duty Straight Steel Bushing, primarily designed for use on the boom, stick, connecting rod, and cylinder lugs of Caterpillar excavators such as the CAT 320D/323D/329D, 950M/966M loaders, and D6N/D7E bulldozers. It is used to withstand radial heavy loads and impacts, reduce wear on pins and seat holes, and is compatible with grease lubrication systems to ensure smooth operation of the articulated parts. Here is the core information:

Core Technical Parameters
Item Details
Part Model: CAT 316-8087 (3168087) Heavy-Duty Straight Steel Bushing
Material: 42CrMo alloy steel, integrally quenched + tempered (HRC 52–58), surface hardening depth 2–3 mm, good core toughness, impact and deformation resistance
Key Dimensions: Inner diameter 50.8 mm (2.0 in), outer diameter 63.5 mm (2.5 in), length 63.5 mm (2.5 in), wall thickness 6.35 mm, chamfered ends 1×45°
Single Weight: Approx. 0.52 kg (1.15 lbs)
Surface Treatment: Quenched + blackened, with axial lubrication grooves and radial oil injection holes, suitable for grease lubrication, reducing friction and wear
Compatible Models: CAT 320D/323D/329D/330D excavators, 950M/966M Loaders, D6N/D7E bulldozers, 120M/140M graders, etc.

Core Functions: Heavy-duty articulated support, wear-resistant and impact-resistant, suitable for high-frequency oscillating conditions, preventing pin wear and seat hole failure.

Core Functions and Structural Features:

High Load Capacity: 42CrMo material with compressive strength ≥1100 MPa, capable of withstanding large loads and impacts on the boom, stick, etc., preventing deformation and breakage.

Wear-Resistant and Anti-Gas-In: Surface hardness HRC 52–58, suitable for harsh working conditions such as dust and mud in construction machinery, preventing seizing and abnormal wear with pins.

Highly Efficient Lubrication: Features a built-in lubrication groove and oil injection hole; grease is added through a grease fitting to form a stable oil film, reducing the coefficient of friction and extending the life of bushings and pins.

Easy Assembly: Straight-tube, flangeless design, suitable for stepless seat holes; chamfered ends facilitate press-fitting; after press-fitting, it fits tightly with the seat hole, ensuring precise positioning.

Installation and Maintenance Points

Installation Specifications
Clean the seat hole and pin, removing burrs, metal shavings, and oil. The seat hole diameter tolerance is H7 (63.5 mm + 0.03 mm), roundness ≤ 0.015 mm, and surface roughness Ra ≤ 1.6 μm.

Use cold pressing or hot fitting (seat hole heated to 80–100℃). Control the pressing force at 3–5 tons, ensuring the end faces are flush and without tilting. The inner diameter shrinkage after pressing should be ≤ 0.04 mm.

After assembly, check the pin’s rotational flexibility for any jamming or abnormal noise. Control the radial clearance at 0.05–0.10 mm to avoid uneven wear or seizing caused by abnormal clearance.

Maintenance Recommendations
Add NLGI Grade 2 lithium-based grease every 200–400 working hours until it overflows, ensuring adequate lubrication.

Inspect the bushing every 800–1000 working hours: check for looseness, outer diameter wear >0.1 mm, surface peeling, or cracks. Replace immediately if any problems are found.

When replacing, prioritize original equipment manufacturer (OEM) or equivalent quality heavy-duty bushings to avoid premature failure caused by ordinary steel bushings.
