CAT 464-4996 is a Caterpillar single-row tapered roller bearing inner ring (commonly known as “inner tapered”), suitable for heavy-duty transmission components such as the Cat 336D excavator slewing bearing, the 966K loader gearbox axle, and the 140M grader drive axle. It is used to pair with the corresponding outer ring (such as 464-4997) to bear combined radial and unidirectional axial loads, limit shaft movement, and transmit torque. The following is structured technical and application information:
Core Technical Parameters
Item Details
Basic Attributes
Model 464-4996, tapered roller bearing inner ring, suitable for 336D excavator slewing mechanism, 966K loader gearbox, 140M grader drive axle, material is chromium bearing steel (GCr15, quenched HRC 60-64), operating temperature -40℃ to +120℃, single weight approximately 1.2 kg, suitable for oil lubrication, suitable for outer ring model 464-4997, rated radial dynamic load ≥95 kN, rated axial dynamic load ≥70 kN, operating speed ≤2800 rpm, wear life ≥7500 hours, used for combined load bearing and positioning in transmission parts, preventing axial movement
Key Dimensions
Inner diameter 85.00 mm (3.346 in, tolerance P6, +0.010/-0.015 mm), outer diameter 125.00 mm (4.921 in, tolerance P6, +0.015/-0.020 mm), total width 35.00 mm (1.378 in, tolerance ±0.15 mm), inner ring large end chamfer C2.0 mm, small end chamfer C1.5 mm, inner hole roughness Ra≤0.8 μm, fits standard journal, inner ring taper angle 12°, consistent with the outer ring taper to ensure good fit between roller and raceway.
Material and Process: GCr15 chromium bearing steel → forging → spheroidizing annealing → rough turning → finish turning → quenching (860℃ oil quenching) → low temperature tempering (180℃ holding for 2h) → precision grinding → ultra-precision grinding → rust prevention treatment. It possesses high hardness, high wear resistance, and good dimensional stability, suitable for medium-high speed and medium-heavy load conditions.
Compatible Models: Cat 336D/349D excavator slewing bearing, 966K/972M This drive axle is used in the loader gearbox (second shaft), 140M/160M grader drive axle, and 420D skid steer loader transmission system to withstand combined radial and unidirectional axial loads, ensuring smooth operation of transmission components and extending shaft life.
Assembly Fit: Compatible with 85.00 mm diameter journals (tolerance k5, +0.012/+0.002 mm), interference fit 0.002-0.012 mm (journal and inner ring), hot fitting (oil temperature 80-90℃) or cold fitting. Do not hammer during installation. Radial runout after installation ≤0.02 mm. Must be used with 464-4997 outer rings.
Installation and Maintenance Points: Before installation, clean the journals, bearing housing bores, and inner rings. Check for scratches, rust, and dents. Measure the inner diameter of the journal and inner ring, and the outer diameter of the bearing housing bore and outer ring to ensure the interference and clearance meet requirements. The surface roughness of the bearing housing bore Ra ≤1.6 μm.
For hot fitting (immerse the inner ring in clean machine oil at 80-90℃ for 20-30 minutes), use a special tool to vertically press it into the journal, ensuring the inner ring end face fits snugly against the shaft shoulder without misalignment); for cold fitting, use a hydraulic nut to evenly press it in, and never strike the inner ring directly with a hammer to prevent deformation and damage to the raceway.
Maintenance Recommendations: Check bearing clearance every 2000 hours. Replace immediately if radial clearance > 0.15 mm, or if abnormal noise or temperature rise occurs. Use ISO VG 46 hydraulic oil for daily lubrication, maintaining the oil level at the center of the lowest rolling element. Check oil quality every 500 hours and replace the filter element regularly to prevent impurities from entering the bearing.
