CAT 521-7204 SEM is a Caterpillar genuine steel-backed bronze composite bushing (SEM stands for Special Engineering Material, enhancing wear resistance and impact resistance). It is used on the connecting rods, booms, or bucket pins of mini excavators and loaders to reduce friction and wear between the pin and the pin hole, absorb impact loads, and ensure flexible swing and reliable connection of the boom, bucket, and other working devices. It is suitable for high-frequency swinging and heavy-duty Cat® construction machinery…
Core Technical Parameters
Item Details
Part Model: CAT 521-7204 SEM (5217204) Steel-backed Bronze Composite Bushing, SEM marking corresponds to optimized wear-resistant layer formula, original equipment manufacturer (OEM) only, no universal replacement model
Material: Steel back (Q345B) + bronze wear-resistant layer (CuSn10Pb10) + solid lubricating particles, bronze layer thickness 2-3mm, surface hardness HB 90-110, coefficient of friction ≤0.15, suitable for lithium-based grease lubrication
Key Dimensions: Inner diameter 50mm, outer diameter 60mm, length 45mm, wall thickness 5mm, lubrication groove on inner hole surface, with oil injection hole, suitable for pin tolerance h6, seat hole tolerance H7, interference fit 0.015-0.025mm
Compatible Models: CAT 305.5E2/306E2 mini excavators, 906M/907M Loader, 247B skid steer loader, used for boom and stick connection pins, bucket pins, and boom support pins.
Performance Parameters: Rated load capacity 80MPa, applicable temperature -20℃ to 120℃, suitable swing frequency ≤10 times/minute, can be used for short-term emergency use without lubrication, but requires adequate grease for long-term operation.
Core Functions and Structure:
Wear Resistance and Friction Reduction: The steel backing provides high-strength support, and the bronze wear-resistant layer, combined with lubrication grooves and oil injection holes, reduces friction between the pin and bushing, lowers the wear rate, and extends the service life of the pin and pin hole.
Impact Buffering: The bronze layer has good plasticity and toughness, absorbing the impact load during operation and preventing deformation or cracking of the pin and seat hole due to impact.
Positioning Guidance: Precise inner and outer diameter dimensions ensure accurate positioning of the pin after installation, preventing displacement during swinging of the working device and ensuring operational accuracy.
Installation and Maintenance Points
Installation Specifications
Clean the seat hole and bushing, removing oil and metal shavings. Check that the roundness of the seat hole is ≤0.01mm and that the surface is free of scratches/rust. Press in cold (using a special pressure block applied to the bushing end face). Do not strike the wear-resistant layer. After installation, check the fit between the bushing end face and the seat hole step (gap ≤0.01mm).
After installation, add lithium-based grease through the grease injection hole, ensuring the grease fills the lubrication groove. Apply grease before installing the pin to reduce initial friction.
Maintenance Recommendations
Every 500 working hours, check: grease level, bushing-pin clearance (replace the bushing if the clearance exceeds 0.5mm), and whether the bushing is loose, worn, or cracked.
When replacing, only genuine 521-7204 SEM bushings must be used. Do not use ordinary bronze bushings to avoid premature failure due to material differences.
