CAT 583-5046 is a Caterpillar genuine GD series bearing ring (Race-Bearing-GD), a dedicated outer/inner ring for tapered roller bearings. It is suitable for drive axles, final drives, or steering systems, used for bearing heavy radial and bidirectional axial loads. It is compatible with differentials and wheel-side reducers in Cat® machines such as the 336D2/349D2 excavator, 980H loader, and D6T bulldozer.

Core Technical Parameters

Item Details
Part Model: CAT 583-5046 GD Bearing Ring (Race-Bearing-GD)

Material: Chromium-molybdenum alloy steel (e.g., 42CrMo), surface hardened + low-temperature tempered, raceway hardness HRC 58-62, core hardness HRC 30-35, wear-resistant and fatigue-resistant, rust-proof rating reaches 72h salt spray test with no red rust

Key Dimensions: Inner diameter approx. 120mm, outer diameter approx. 150mm, width approx. 35mm, raceway cone angle approx. 15°, suitable for 120mm diameter journals, matching with corresponding inner ring/roller assembly, tolerance IT5-IT6

Compatible Bearings: Matches CAT 583-5047 inner ring, 583-5048 roller assembly to form a complete tapered roller bearing, suitable for differential drive wheel bearings, wheel-side reducer bearings, etc.

Performance Characteristics: Raceway surface roughness… Ra≤0.4μm, contact fatigue life≥5000h, oil and temperature resistant (-40℃ to 120℃), suitable for low-speed heavy-load (speed ≤1500rpm) and high-frequency vibration conditions.
Core Functions and Structure

Load Bearing: As the outer ring of the tapered roller bearing, it bears radial loads and bidirectional axial loads. The raceway guides the rollers, evenly transferring the load to the mounting base, improving transmission efficiency and load-bearing capacity.

Positioning and Guiding: Works with the inner ring and roller assembly to ensure bearing assembly accuracy, limit axial and radial movement of the rollers, prevent uneven bearing wear, and extend the overall bearing life.

Sealing and Protection: Used with a sealing ring, it isolates oil, dust, and moisture, reducing impurities from entering the raceway, reducing wear between the rollers and the raceway, and improving bearing reliability.

Stress Dispersion: The raceway surface design optimizes contact stress distribution, reducing local stress concentration, lowering the risk of fatigue spalling, and making it suitable for heavy-load impact conditions in engineering machinery.

Installation and Maintenance Points

Installation Specifications
Clean the bearing ring raceway and mounting surface to remove oil, rust, and impurities; check the bearing ring for cracks, raceway for peeling, burns, or other defects, and ensure dimensions meet assembly requirements.

Use heat fitting (heating temperature 80-100℃) for installation. Do not directly strike the raceway surface to prevent damage; after installation, check that the bearing ring end face fits snugly against the mounting seat without gaps, and the coaxiality deviation is ≤0.05mm.

When assembling with the inner ring and roller assembly, ensure the rollers are evenly distributed, the raceway has good contact, and the preload meets the machine specifications. Avoid overtightening, which can cause overheating, or undertightening, which can cause impact.

Maintenance Recommendations
Every 2000 working hours, check the bearing ring raceway for wear, peeling, and pitting; check the mounting seat for looseness. Replace the bearing ring and related components immediately if any abnormalities are found.

Regularly change the lubricating oil, keeping it clean (NAS 8 cleanliness level) to prevent oil contamination that can accelerate raceway wear. Also check the seals to prevent leaks.
