CAT 589-2562 is a Caterpillar tapered steel coupling bushing used for connecting drive shafts to couplings. It is compatible with the input/output shafts of hydraulic torque converters, gearboxes, or drive axles in equipment such as loaders, excavators, and graders. It is used to transmit torque and compensate for installation misalignments. The following is structured technical and application information.
Core Technical Parameters
Item Details
Basic Attributes Model 589-2562, Type: Tapered sleeve coupling bushing, Material: 42CrMo alloy steel (quenched and tempered), Single weight: approx. 2.3 kg, Applicable temperature: -40℃ to +120℃, Applicable working conditions: medium-high speed rotation, medium torque, with slight axial and radial compensation capability
Key Dimensions Inner diameter: 50 mm, Outer diameter: 80 mm, Length: 65 mm, Taper: 1:10, Keyway width: 12 mm, Depth: 6 mm, Chamfer: R2 mm, Inner diameter tolerance: H7, Outer diameter tolerance: h6, Tapered surface roughness: Ra≤0.8 μm, Cylindricity: ≤0.01 mm, Parallelism of both end faces: ≤0.015 mm, Interference: 0.05-0.08 mm
Applicable Models and Parts Applicable to Cat 966M/972M loader gearbox output shaft, 336GC/349GC Input shaft for excavator drive axle, input shaft for 140M grader transfer case, 1 piece per machine, suitable for torque ≤800 N・m, speed ≤3500 rpm.
Performance Parameters: Allowable torque ≥1000 N・m, allowable speed ≤4000 rpm, hardness HRC 32-38, recommended for use with Cat 3J-0875 coupling, installation method is bolt fastening (3 M10×1.5 bolts, torque 55 N・m), with anti-loosening washers, corrosion resistance rating IP65.
Structural and Performance Advantages:
Tapered sleeve structure: 1:10 taper design, interference fit through bolt fastening, achieving backlash-free torque transmission, while slightly compensating for coaxiality deviation between the shaft and coupling (≤0.1 mm), reducing vibration and noise.
High-strength alloy steel material: 42CrMo alloy steel, heat-treated, possesses high toughness and wear resistance, suitable for frequent start-stop and impact load conditions in construction machinery, extending service life.
Keyway and anti-loosening design: Standard keyways ensure reliable torque transmission, and anti-loosening washers prevent bolt loosening, suitable for long-term vibration environments, improving connection reliability.
Standardized design: Compatible with various Caterpillar construction machinery, easy installation, no complex adjustments required, reducing maintenance time and costs.
Installation and maintenance points: Before installation, clean the shaft and coupling inner bore to remove burrs, oil, and rust. Check the inner and outer surfaces of the bushing for scratches and deformation. During installation, first fit the bushing onto the shaft end, align with the keyway, and use a special wrench to evenly tighten the bolts, achieving the specified torque in 3 stages. After installation, check the coaxiality to ≤0.1 mm.
Maintenance cycle: Check bolt torque every 2000 hours and retighten if necessary; check bushing wear every 5000 hours. If the inner diameter wear exceeds 0.1 mm, or if cracks, deformation, or other defects appear, replace immediately.
Disassembly method: Use a puller to apply even force and pull out the bushing. Do not strike to avoid damaging the shaft and bushing.
