CAT 5P-9538 is a Caterpillar double-row self-aligning roller bearing, suitable for drive axles, gearbox output shafts or reduction gearboxes of heavy equipment such as wheel loaders and excavators. It can withstand heavy radial loads and bidirectional axial loads, and is compatible with misalignment errors between the shaft and the housing. It is a core support component of heavy-duty rotating systems. The following is structured technical and application information:
Core Technical Parameters
Item Details
Basic Attributes

Suitable Models and Locations
Suitable for: Cat Bearings for the differential of the drive axle of 950/962 loaders, the output shaft bearing of the slewing gearbox of 330 excavators, and the two shaft bearings of the gearbox of 777 mining trucks, one bearing per shaft, capable of withstanding radial load (maximum radial force ≤280 kN) + bidirectional axial load (maximum axial force ≤80 kN).
Performance Parameters: Rated dynamic load 280 kN, rated static load 420 kN, grease-lubricated limiting speed 1800 rpm, oil-lubricated limiting speed 2400 rpm, coefficient of friction ≤0.003, cage material stamped steel, bearing clearance C3 (radial clearance 0.12-0.18 mm before installation).
Structural and Performance Advantages: Heavy-duty adaptability: Double-row symmetrical roller design with a large line contact area, capable of withstanding the impact loads during the starting and braking of heavy equipment, suitable for frequent load changes, rated dynamic load up to 280 kN, meeting heavy-duty requirements.
Self-aligning compensation: The spherical raceway is compatible with misalignment errors of ≤2° between the shaft and housing, reducing edge stress caused by misalignment, lowering the risk of early wear, and extending bearing life.
Bidirectional load bearing: Simultaneously bears heavy radial loads and bidirectional axial loads, eliminating the need for additional thrust bearings, simplifying the transmission system structure, and adapting to complex load-bearing components such as drive axles and gearboxes.
Wear and temperature resistant: The bearing steel is quenched to a hardness of HRC60-64. The stamped steel cage has high strength and high temperature resistance, making it suitable for harsh working conditions in engineering machinery, with a service life ≥8000 hours (grease lubrication).
Installation and maintenance points: Before installation, clean the bearing housing bore, shaft diameter, and bearing, checking for cracks, burrs, and deformation; use a press to cold press the bearing into the shaft diameter (pressure 10-15 MPa), ensuring the end face fits snugly against the shaft shoulder. Do not strike the rollers or cage to avoid damage to components.
Maintenance every 2000 hours: Check for abnormal bearing noise, housing temperature (≤90℃), and clearance (maximum permissible clearance 0.3 mm). Replace immediately if out of tolerance. For grease lubrication, add Cat-specific lithium-based grease (NLGI 2), filling to 1/3-1/2 of the bearing cavity volume. For oil lubrication, ensure the hydraulic oil cleanliness is NAS 8 or higher.
Prioritize genuine parts. Aftermarket parts may have insufficient roller precision, improper clearance control, etc., easily leading to premature wear, bearing seizure, and transmission system failure.
