The CAT 5S-0994 is a Caterpillar genuine shaft retainer with a spring clip (circlip). It is used to lock the axial position of rotating components such as bearings and gears in gearboxes, engines, or hydraulic pumps, preventing movement during operation. It is suitable for the high-precision positioning requirements of heavy equipment transmission and hydraulic systems. The following are the key information.
Core Technical Parameters
Item Details
Part Model: CAT 5S-0994 (Shaft Elastic Retaining Ring, Single Piece)
Material: 65Mn spring steel, quenched, hardness HRC 42-48, galvanized and passivated surface, corrosion-resistant and wear-resistant, good elastic recovery
Key Dimensions: Inner diameter approx. 38mm, outer diameter approx. 45mm, thickness approx. 1.5mm, opening width approx. 3mm, suitable for mounting slots with 38mm shaft diameter
Single Weight: Approx. 0.02kg (0.044 lbs)
Suitable Models: Loaders 950F/966F, bulldozers D6R/D7R, excavators 320B/C, dump trucks 777D, etc., for gearbox shafts, hydraulic pump drive shafts, engine camshafts, etc.
Performance Characteristics: Operating temperature -40℃ to +120℃, radial spring force ≥150N, axial positioning accuracy after assembly ±0.05mm, suitable for impact and vibration conditions, with no risk of loosening.
Structure and Core Functions
Axial Positioning: Installed within the annular groove of the shaft, it relies on its own elasticity to generate radial tension, firmly locking itself in the groove and securing the axial position of components such as bearing inner rings, gears, and spacers. This prevents component movement due to vibration and impact during equipment operation, avoiding wear and abnormal noise.
Limit Protection: Limits the axial displacement range of components, protecting precision components such as seals and bearings, preventing damage due to excessive displacement, and extending component lifespan.
Quick Assembly and Disassembly: The flexible opening design allows for quick installation and disassembly using snap ring pliers, facilitating maintenance, improving work efficiency, and adapting to frequent maintenance conditions.
Suitable Scenarios and Installation/Maintenance Points
Suitable Scenarios: Used for positioning shaft components in heavy equipment transmission systems, such as gearbox gear shafts, hydraulic pump drive shafts, and engine camshafts. Suitable for medium-to-high speed and high vibration/impact conditions, ensuring stable operation of rotating components.
Installation Specifications:
Clean the shaft groove and retaining ring surface, ensuring they are free of burrs, oil, and rust. Check that the shaft groove dimensions match the retaining ring; the groove width should match the retaining ring thickness, and the groove depth should ensure a snug fit between the retaining ring and the component after installation.
Use dedicated retaining ring pliers to pry open the retaining ring and smoothly place it into the shaft groove, ensuring the retaining ring is fully embedded without any misalignment. After installation, check for any looseness in the retaining ring to ensure reliable axial positioning.
Maintenance Recommendations:
During each major overhaul, check the retaining ring’s elasticity and surface condition. Replace it immediately if deformation, cracks, rust, or decreased elasticity is observed to prevent positioning failure.
When installing a new retaining ring, check the shaft groove for wear. If the groove wall wear exceeds 0.1mm, repair or replace the shaft to prevent the retaining ring from falling off.
Do not use ordinary pliers for installation, as this may damage the retaining ring opening and affect its elasticity and positioning effect.
