The CAT 6D-3886 is actually a Caterpillar camshaft driven tapered roller bearing, often mistakenly referred to as a “14.29mm long track roller.” It is designed for Cat C7/C9 engine camshaft drive systems, used for precise power transmission and bearing radial loads. The following is precise technical and application information.
Core Parameters (Precise Version)
Project Details
Basic Attributes
Model 6D-3886, Single-row tapered roller bearing (camshaft drive specific), withstands radial load + light unidirectional axial load, used for engine camshaft timing drive, fuel injection pump drive end, single unit usage 1 piece, non-track track roller component
Compatible Models: Cat C7, C9, C13 engines, compatible with 320-336 excavators, 966L loaders, 777G mining trucks, matching camshaft models 248-4068, timing gear chamber 175-3886
Material and Process: Bearing steel (52100 chromium alloy), quenching hardness HRC 60-64, raceway surface ultra-fine ground, precision grade ISO P0, radial clearance C2 (light preload), no seal (dependent on engine lubrication system)
Key Dimensions: Inner diameter 35mm, outer diameter 62mm, width 14.29mm (i.e., 0.562 inches (corresponding to the 14.29mm you mentioned), raceway diameter 48mm, chamfer R1mm, weight approximately 0.18kg
Performance Parameters: Basic rated dynamic load 32kN, basic rated static load 38kN, grease-lubricated limiting speed 5200rpm, oil-lubricated limiting speed 6500rpm, operating temperature -40℃ to +150℃, installation interference 0.015-0.03mm
Replacements and Matching: Matching drive gear model 172-6050, replacement models 6D-3885, 6D-3887. It is recommended to replace with the camshaft simultaneously; separate repair and reuse are prohibited.
Core Functions and Application Scenarios:
Power Transmission: Connects the camshaft and timing gear, accurately transmitting torque, suitable for medium-to-high speed engine operation (3000-5000rpm), ensuring valve timing and fuel injection timing accuracy, withstanding radial load ≤25kN and unidirectional axial load ≤8kN.
Positioning and Guiding: Limits radial displacement of the camshaft, prevents changes in gear meshing clearance, reduces vibration and noise, and is suitable for high-load, high-frequency start-stop engine conditions.
Typical Location: Front/rear drive end of the engine camshaft, engaging with the timing gear and idler gear to drive the camshaft and fuel injection pump, ensuring synchronized operation of the engine’s valve train and fuel supply system.
Installation and Maintenance Points
Before Installation: Clean the journal and bearing housing bore, checking for bearing deformation, cracks, or raceway spalling; measure the clearance between the journal and bearing inner diameter to be 0.015-0.03mm, and prepare a dedicated press-in tool (press-in pressure approximately 5-8kN).
During Installation: Maintain coaxiality during press-in, apply uniform pressing force, and after press-in, check that the bearing end face runout is ≤0.08mm; after installation, inject engine-specific oil (SAE 15W-40) to ensure adequate lubrication of the rollers and raceways.
Maintenance and replacement: Check bearing wear and clearance every 10,000 hours. Replace immediately if abnormal noise, raceway wear exceeds 0.1mm, or pitting occurs on the surface. Welding or repair welding is prohibited.
