The CAT 6I-2726 is a straight copper-based alloy sleeve bearing (piston pin bushing) used by Caterpillar for the small end of engine connecting rods. It has an inner diameter of 57.20 mm (corresponding to a 2.252-inch piston pin diameter). Its core functions are sliding support, friction reduction, and positioning between the piston pin and connecting rod. It is suitable for heavy-duty diesel engines such as the 3406C/3406E. Complete technical and application information is provided below.
Core Parameters (Precise Version)
Item Details
Basic Attributes Model 6I-2726, Straight Oil-Free Groove Sleeve Bearing (Piston Pin Bushing), used for connecting rod small end to piston pin mating, compatible with 3406C/3406E/3408 engines, 1 piece per cylinder, 8 pieces per V-type 8-cylinder engine
Compatible Engines Cat 3406C/3406E/3408 diesel engines, compatible connecting rods 9Y6054, 3798868, compatible serial numbers 1LS720-UP, 3ER3914-UP, 3ZJ25481-UP, etc., compatible with Cat 3406B platform models
Material and Process Main body copper-lead alloy (CuPb10Sn10, containing 10% lead and 10% tin), surface tin-plated (thickness 0.005-0.01mm), no internal / External thread, straight cylindrical grooveless structure, C1.5 chamfer at both ends, inner wall with anti-friction layer (thickness 0.1-0.2mm)
Key Dimensions: Inner diameter 57.20mm (2.252 inches), outer diameter 71.44mm (2.8125 inches), total length 42.86mm (1.6875 inches), wall thickness 7.12mm, suitable piston pin diameter 57.20mm, weight approx. 0.45kg
Performance Parameters: Operating temperature -40℃ to +180℃, suitable sliding speed ≤8m/s, radial load ≤20kN, clearance 0.03-0.06mm, installation interference 0.015-0.03mm, oil groove-less design (relies on splash lubrication)
Core Functions and Application Scenarios: Sliding support: Isolates the piston pin and connecting rod small end, provides a low-friction sliding interface, absorbs the impact load of piston reciprocating motion, suitable for high-load engine conditions.
Positioning and Guiding: Precisely positions the piston pin axially, ensuring the perpendicularity of the piston to the cylinder wall and reducing cylinder wear.
Wear Compensation: The copper-based alloy material possesses excellent embedding and conformability, compensating for manufacturing errors in the piston pin and connecting rod, reducing the risk of early wear.
Typical Location: Connecting rod small end in 3406C/3406E/3408 engines, used to connect the piston and connecting rod, transmit power, and guide the piston’s reciprocating motion.
Installation and Maintenance Points:
Before Installation: Clean the connecting rod small end bore and bushing outer diameter, checking the bushing for deformation, cracks, or plating peeling; measure the interference fit between the bushing outer diameter and the connecting rod bore inner diameter to be 0.015-0.03mm; prepare the press-in tool and liquid nitrogen (cold fitting temperature -196℃, hold for 10 minutes).
During installation: When cold-fitting or pressing in, ensure the bushing is coaxial with the connecting rod bore. Apply uniform pressing force (approximately 5-8 kN). After pressing, check that the bushing end face is flush with the connecting rod plane and there is no misalignment. After pressing, ream the inner diameter to ensure a clearance of 0.03-0.06 mm with the piston pin.
Maintenance and replacement: Check the bushing inner diameter wear and clearance every 10,000 hours. Replace immediately if the clearance exceeds 0.1 mm or if cylinder scoring or plating peeling occurs. Welding or repair welding is prohibited.
