CAT 6W-4765 (6W4765) is a Caterpillar drive axle wheel hub bearing/differential end cover retainer, adapted for drive axle assemblies of wheel loaders/excavators. It is used to lock the outer ring of the wheel hub bearing or the differential end cover, preventing component movement under heavy load conditions and ensuring the positioning accuracy and operational stability of the transmission system. The following are the core information:
Core Technical Parameters
Item Details
Part Model: CAT 6W-4765 (6W4765) Drive Axle Wheel Hub Bearing/Differential End Cover Retainer (Locking Outer Ring/End Cover, Anti-Movement, Suitable for Heavy-Duty Transmission Positioning)
Core Material: Body: 42CrMo alloy tempered steel (HRC 32–36), Surface: Oxidation blackening treatment (thickness 8–12 μm) + zinc passivation (salt spray resistance 72 h), Thread: M20×2 fine thread (grade 10.9, tensile strength 1040 MPa), Locating Pin: 40Cr Tempered and tempered steel (HRC 28–32)
Key Dimensions: Outer diameter 160 mm, inner diameter 100 mm, thickness 25 mm, 6 bolt holes (evenly distributed, hole spacing 140 mm, compatible with M20×2 bolts), locating pin diameter 12 mm (2, symmetrically distributed), anti-rotation groove width 10 mm (depth 5 mm)
Single Weight: Approx. 2.8 kg (6.17 lb)
Compatible Models: CAT 950M/966M wheel loaders (drive axle hub bearing outer ring fixed), 320GC/323GC excavators (differential end cover fixed), compatible drive axle models 8J-5200/8J-5201, compatible with 355-2418 bearings and 271-6862 bearing seat rings
Operating Fit: Rated tightening torque 280–300 N・m, operating temperature -30℃ to + 120℃, suitable for complex working conditions such as dust/gravel, Class 9 anti-loosening rating (no loosening after 1000 hours of vibration).
Core Functions and Structural Features:
Double Locking Positioning: Achieves axial positioning and circumferential anti-rotation of the drive axle wheel hub bearing outer ring or differential end cover through 6 M20×2 bolts + 2 locating pins, suppressing component movement and rotational offset during heavy-load transmission.
Impact Resistance and Anti-Loosening: Made of 42CrMo alloy with heat treatment, it withstands an impact load of 200 kN. The thread uses a fine-pitch design (2 mm pitch), combined with anodized blackening and zinc passivation surface treatment, improving vibration resistance, anti-loosening ability, and corrosion resistance.
High-Precision Fit: Mounting surface runout tolerance ≤0.02 mm, and contact gap with bearing housing/end cover ≤0.03 mm, ensuring the positioning accuracy of the transmission system and reducing vibration and noise.
Modular Fit: Compatible with 355-2418 double-row tapered roller bearings and 271-6862 bearing housing rings, simplifying assembly and adapting to the standard mounting interface of CAT drive axles.
Installation and Maintenance Points
Installation Specifications: Clean the mounting surface, ensuring it is free of rust, oil, and burrs. Bearing housing/end cover tolerances should be +0.01–+0.03 mm to ensure accurate clamping of the retainer.
Insert the locating pins into the locating holes of the bearing housing/end cover first, then install the retainer. Tighten symmetrically in 3 steps using M20×2 bolts (grade 10.9): Initial tightening 100 N·m → Secondary tightening 200 N·m → Final tightening 280–300 N·m.
After installation, check the clearance between the anti-rotation groove and the drive axle housing to ensure there is no looseness (clearance ≤0.1 mm).
Maintenance Recommendations
Every 1500 working hours, check: bolt torque (within ±5%), for cracks in the retainer, and for wear on the locating pins. Tighten or replace any faulty parts immediately.
Before long-term storage (>30 days), retighten the bolts to the rated torque to prevent loosening due to changes in ambient temperature.
When replacing parts, prioritize CAT original parts or YM/SEM quality parts of the same specifications to ensure compatibility with bearings and bearing races.
