CAT 7S-8668 is a Caterpillar gearbox/final drive shaft end retainer (circlip/thrust ring) used to lock the axial position of planetary gear shafts, output shafts, or bearings, preventing component movement under heavy load conditions. It is compatible with the transmission systems of excavators, loaders, and other equipment, and is a key fastener to ensure transmission accuracy and safety. The following is structured technical and application information:
Core Technical Parameters

Compatible Models and Applications
Compatible with Cat For 320D/323D excavators and 950H/966H loaders, this product is used for the output shaft of the planetary carrier of the gearbox and the end of the final drive hub. Supporting parts include shaft retaining ring clamps, thrust washers, and lock nuts. Rated axial load ≥8 kN, fatigue life ≥12000 hours.
Performance Parameters: Elastic recovery rate ≥95%, corrosion resistance meets ISO 9227 neutral salt spray test ≥72 hours with no red rust, radial deformation after assembly ≤0.2 mm, disassembly times ≤5 times (repeated use will reduce elasticity).
Structural and Performance Advantages:
Precise Locking: Made of 65Mn spring steel with moderate elasticity, it fits tightly to the shaft groove after installation, effectively limiting axial movement of bearings, gears, and other components, ensuring the positioning accuracy of the transmission system, and reducing the risk of wear from impact vibration.
Reliable and Durable: Galvanized passivation treatment enhances corrosion resistance, suitable for harsh working conditions in construction machinery. The hardness and elasticity are matched, allowing it to withstand frequent start-stop and heavy-load impacts, avoiding deformation failure.
Easy Installation: The standard opening design is compatible with universal shaft retaining ring pliers, ensuring high installation/removal efficiency. It fits standard retaining ring groove sizes, requiring no special tooling and reducing maintenance costs.
Installation and Maintenance Points: Before installation, clean the shaft groove and retaining ring, checking for burrs and cracks. Ensure the groove width and depth meet dimensional requirements. Use dedicated retaining ring pliers to open the retaining ring and smoothly place it into the shaft groove, ensuring it is fully engaged without looseness. The gap between the retaining ring and the groove bottom should be ≤0.05 mm.
During trial operation, check for abnormal noise and component movement. Every 2000 hours of maintenance, check the retaining ring’s elasticity and wear. If deformation, cracks, or corrosion are found, replace it immediately to prevent transmission failure.
When replacing, prioritize original parts to avoid positioning failure due to dimensional deviations of non-standard parts. After installation, check the thrust washer and lock nut to ensure reliable axial fixation of the transmission system.
