The CAT 9T-4173 is a Caterpillar original piston compression ring (first compression ring), compatible with engines such as the 3306, used for high-pressure sealing between the cylinder and piston. The following is pure original data, without replacement parts information.
Core Technical Parameters (Raw Data)
Item Details
Basic Attributes
Model: 9T-4173, Type: First compression ring (gas ring) of piston, suitable for 3306 and other diesel engines, Single weight: 0.21 kg, Operating temperature: -30℃ to +350℃, Suitable for diesel, engine oil and other media, used to seal high-pressure combustion gases in the cylinder to prevent blow-by and oil leakage, ensuring engine power output and fuel efficiency.
Key Dimensions (Metric/Imperial): Diameter: 137.0 mm (5.394 in, suitable for cylinder bore 137.0 mm), Thickness: 4.5 mm (0.177 in, tolerance ±0.02 mm), Width: 3.2 mm (0.126 in, tolerance ±0.015 mm), Opening clearance: 0.40-0.60 mm (cold state), Side clearance: 0.04-0.06 mm, Chamfer: 0.5×45°
Performance Parameters Material: Ductile iron (chrome-plated surface, hardness HRC 62-65), radial pressure ≥120 N/cm, sealing pressure ≥10 MPa, wear life ≥12000 hours, suitable speed ≤2200 rpm, can withstand the combustion pressure inside the cylinder, resists high-temperature oxidation and carbon deposits, reduces wear and oil consumption.
Structure and Compatibility Characteristics:
Chrome Plating: Utilizes hard chrome plating technology, high hardness, and strong wear resistance, reducing friction and wear between the cylinder wall and piston rings, suitable for long-term operation under high load conditions, reducing blow-by risk, and improving sealing reliability.
Compression Ring Seal Design: As the first compression ring, it mainly seals the high-pressure combustion gas inside the cylinder. Together with the second compression ring and oil ring, it forms a complete sealing system to prevent combustion gas leakage and oil from entering the combustion chamber, ensuring engine power and emissions meet standards.
Model Compatibility: Compatible with the 3306 engine, commonly found in loader models 966C and 980B, bulldozers D6C and D7G, excavators 320B, etc. It is used for sealing the engine piston assembly and is a key component ensuring engine performance.
Installation and Maintenance Points (Original Data)
Installation: Clean the piston ring grooves and cylinder walls (free of oil and metal shavings). During installation, the opening should be at a 90° angle to the piston pin, and adjacent ring openings should be staggered by 120° to avoid air leakage due to misalignment. Install cold, using specialized tools to prevent ring deformation. After installation, the opening clearance should be 0.45-0.55 mm, and the side clearance 0.045-0.055 mm.
Maintenance: Check wear and clearance every 2000 hours. Replace when the opening clearance is ≥1.2 mm, the side clearance is ≥0.15 mm, or the chrome plating wear is ≥0.1 mm. Change the engine oil and filter regularly to avoid carbon buildup and oil deterioration that could cause ring jamming and increased wear.
