The CAT 9U-8072 is a Caterpillar original engine fuel system positioning and retaining device (injector pressure plate retainer) used for positioning and securing the pressure plate of the injector assembly in 3116/3126/3306 engines. It prevents the injectors from loosening or shifting during operation, ensuring stable injection pressure and injection accuracy. It is compatible with equipment such as the 120H grader and loaders. The following are the core information and key points:
Core Technical Parameters
Item Details

Core Functions and Structure
Positioning and Fastening: Precise dimensions and positioning grooves ensure accurate positioning of the injector pressure plate during installation. Stable clamping force is provided through bolt tightening, preventing injector loosening due to vibration, ensuring reliable sealing between the injector and cylinder head, and avoiding fuel leakage and pressure loss.
Stress Dispersion: The plate-like structure design disperses bolt tightening force, preventing localized stress concentration on the pressure plate, protecting the injector-cylinder head contact surface, and extending component lifespan.
Anti-Loosening and Anti-Displacement: Compatible with anti-loosening bolts and washers, working in conjunction with engine vibration conditions, prevents the retainer itself from loosening, ensuring the injector is always in the correct working position and maintaining injection accuracy.
Installation and Maintenance Points
Installation Specifications: Clean the contact surfaces of the retainer, bolts, pressure plate, and cylinder head to remove oil, carbon deposits, and rust. Check the retainer for deformation and cracks; the flatness of the mounting surface should be ≤0.03mm.
Tighten the bolts in the specified sequence. For M10 bolts, the torque should be 35-40 N·m, tightening evenly in 2-3 stages to ensure a tight fit between the retainer and pressure plate without gaps.
Maintenance Recommendations: Every 2000 working hours, check: for looseness, deformation, or corrosion of the retainer; check if the bolt torque is up to standard; check for leaks in the fuel injectors. Replace the retainer and related seals immediately if any abnormalities are found.
The original 9U-8072 retainer must be used. Do not use ordinary steel plates to make your own, as this may result in insufficient clamping force, inaccurate positioning, fuel injector damage, and reduced engine power.
